(Inside California Politics) \u2014 The race to be the next governor of California is \u201cwide open,\u201d San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan says.<\/p>\n
The mayor spoke with Inside California Politics host Nikki Laurenzo this week and made the case for his campaign, which is lagging behind in the polls with less than two months to go before the election.<\/p>\n
Other Democratic candidates are offering \u201cmore of the same,\u201d Mahan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSacramento has been failing us, frankly, and I jumped in the race to offer an alternative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also criticized them for focusing too much on revenue growth \u2014 something he believes is code for tax increases.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not how much we spend, it\u2019s how well we spend it,\u201d Mahan said.<\/p>\n
Mahan said his top Democratic opponents are \u201chousehold names.\u201d He believes that when voters learn his record and his focus on government accountability, his poll numbers will rise.<\/p>\n
