WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. \u2013 An Oakland County woman is fed up with what she says are repeated issues with a trash pickup company that took over her service within the past two years.<\/p>\n
Sonya Khal, of West Bloomfield, said she got a \u201cNotice of Delinquency\u201d from Priority Waste, even though she says she\u2019s paid her bill. It\u2019s the latest billing blunder in a string of issues she says she\u2019s had with the company. <\/p>\n
Khal said her concerns with Priority Waste started when the company took over her trash service about 1.5 years ago. <\/p>\n
In the beginning months, she says she didn\u2019t get her bill because it was addressed to a couple who hasn\u2019t lived in the home for over a decade. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you first get something in the mail and it\u2019s not addressed to you, you write \u2018Return to Sender,\u2019\u201d Khal said. <\/p>\n
So, she did that for months. <\/p>\n
Khal showed Local 4 the names on the bills from early 2025. They were not addressed to her, but included her address. <\/p>\n
Finally, she called the company as a way to try and cut through the confusion.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey said, \u2018Yes, you owe us X amount of dollars with X amount of late fees,\u2019 I was like, \u2018woah woah woah, pardon me,\u2019 I am like, \u2018no, if you don\u2019t send me a bill, then how am I supposed to know if and what I owe you?\u2019\u201d Kahl said. <\/p>\n
She asked them to address the letters to her name or to \u201cCurrent Resident.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cThey started threatening me, \u2018Oh we will put it on your taxes,\u2019\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
She says the company did add the hundreds of dollars in charges to her property taxes last year. <\/p>\n
She thought the issue was resolved because they started addressing the bills to \u201cCurrent Resident.\u201d<\/p>\n
She says she paid every quarterly bill in full and on time. <\/p>\n
\u201cEven if I paid the bill in full, with late fees that don\u2019t belong to me to begin with,\u201d she said. \u201cHere I am, with more late fees.\u201d<\/p>\n
A few days ago, she got that \u201cNotice of Delinquency\u201d letter. It says she owes a late fee she doesn\u2019t know what for.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf not paid in full by April 30th, or they are going to add it to my property taxes,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
She says she just wants answers. <\/p>\n
\u201cExplain it to me, please, how is it that I owe it when I have a zero balance the last time since I paid you in full, explain it to me – and never an answer, never a return phone call,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Local 4 reached out to Priority Waste multiple times for requests for comment, including to their billing line, but has not heard back. <\/p>\n
