THE MOVEMENT SPANS ACROSS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, INCLUDES WORKERS RIGHT HERE IN SACRAMENTO. THE INFORMATION WILL. PICKET AIMS TO DRAW ATTENTION TO WHAT WORKERS SAY IS UNSAFE STAFFING AND POOR WAGE INCREASES. THE NATIONAL UNION OF HEALTH CARE WORKERS SAYS IT\u2019S ALL HAPPENING AMID ONGOING CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS. WE DON\u2019T HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE ON THE FLOOR. WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO CARE FOR OUR PATIENTS. WE\u2019RE BASICALLY THE PEOPLE THAT THE PATIENTS SEE THE MOST, AND WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO HELP THE PATIENTS. BUT BECAUSE WE SEE THE PATIENTS THE MOST, WE\u2019RE GETTING ASKED TO DO THINGS, ASKED TO DO THE WORK OF MAYBE MORE THAN TWO PEOPLE. SOMETIMES. IN RESPONSE, SUTTER HEALTH SAYS THEY ARE COMMITTED TO NEGOTIATING WITH THE UNION IN GOOD FAITH. THEY ADD IN PART, AT THE UNION\u2019S REQUEST, WE AGREED TO EXTEND THE CURRENT CONTRACTS INTO MAY TO ALLOW MORE TIME FOR PRODUCTIVE DISCUSSIONS. WE PUT FORWARD COMPETITIVE PROPOSALS THAT INCLUDE WAGE INCREASES, BENEFITS AND OTHER INVESTMENTS TO SUPPORT RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION IN A CHALLENGING HEALTH CARE LABOR MARKET. The National Union of Healthcare Workers said the picket aims to draw attention to what workers describe as unsafe staffing conditions. &#8220;We don&#8217;t have enough people on the floor,&#8221; said Aryanna Gorospe, a Sutter Health worker. &#8220;We&#8217;re basically the people that patients see the most and we want to be able to help the patients.&#8221; The demonstration comes amid ongoing contract negotiations.
