(KBAK/KBFX) — A decent Pacific frontal boundary pushed across Kern County during the early morning hours of Sunday. Respectable rainfall totals were seen from the South Valley into the Kern River Valley and some of the west-facing foothill and mountain locations too.

The Woody rain gauge (about halfway between McFarland and the KRV) led the pack with a solid half inch of rain. Meadows Field picked up 0.18 and areas around the Kern River Valley picked up anywhere between about a tenth of an inch to just less than a half inch. The mountain valleys and the desert towns got a bit less in the way of accumulations this go around.

<img decoding="async" alt="A decent Pacific frontal boundary pushed across Kern County during the early morning hours of Sunday. PHOTO: KBAK/KBFX

Tonight, high-resolution computer models and satellite imagery point to the center of the low pressure area working across northern California, with a reinforcing spoke of energy coming across the Pacific just off the central California coast. It appears that these two features will consolidate into a “single spin” during the mid-morning to early afternoon Monday right over the Central California interior, at which point the center of this upper-level-low will pass over or very close to, Kern County.

This could keep an on-and-off shower possibility going for the next 24 hours or so, as potpourri-weather will characterize the atmosphere for the next day. The combination of lift and instability could allow for some areas to be sunny, while other places could be rainy, and small hail can’t be ruled out, especially during the day for an isolated spot.

The possibility of a shower will extend from the South Valley, to the Kern River Valley, and the mountains to the desert. Snow could fall and even accumulate in heavy-enough bursts potentially near the 5,000 foot level (higher or lower depending on the exact type of shower at the time).

CHILLIER NIGHTS RETURN

The next night or two will be particularly chilly with temps dropping down into the 40s and 30s areawide. Freezing readings will be likely for the mountains and mountain valley communities so be prepared to bundle up during those overnights and early mornings out there.

REST OF THE WEEK LOOKS DRIER BUT MORE WEATHER CHANGES COULD BE IN STORE

The post-Monday forecast will feature what could be a tug-of-war between a Pacific ridge and a Western US trough, with the most likely scenario being a slower-to-get-warmer situation. Winds, which will be already on the elevated side due to the atmospheric energy in the area could rev up a notch higher around Thursday or so, especially from the KRV to the AV and the mountains too. Following that, some of the extended progs are toying with the idea of another storm-type-potential for early next week. While the trends could be pointing in that direction, we would like to see a bit more consistency before jumping onto that bandwagon with more confidence. As of now, we just might find another chance of precipitation on the 10-day forecast tonight.

Have a great new week ahead!

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
