{"id":265862,"date":"2026-04-13T17:50:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T17:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/265862\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T17:50:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T17:50:12","slug":"ways-to-celebrate-international-dark-sky-week-around-san-diego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/265862\/","title":{"rendered":"Ways to celebrate International Dark Sky Week around San Diego"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">SAN DIEGO (FOX 5\/KUSI) \u2014 NASA\u2019s historic Artemis II moon mission may have come to a close, but the excitement around astronomy and space continues this week with International Dark Sky Week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">International Dark Sky Week, which lasts for one week through Monday, April 20, celebrates efforts to protect the night sky and ecosystems from light pollution through events and activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dark skies matter because scientists say artificial light at night interferes with the natural way of life, including plant growth, wildlife and human sleep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Although it is celebrated around the globe, there are plenty of ways to get involved from right here in San Diego County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On Monday, Borrego Springs will hold an <a href=\"https:\/\/darkskysandiego.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Borrego-Springs-Santa-Ysabel-IDSW-2026-Flyer.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:open house for the new Dark Sky Welcome Center;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;open house for the new Dark Sky Welcome Center&quot;}\" class=\"link \">open house for the new Dark Sky Welcome Center<\/a>.
