BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) \u2014 A shooting, a pursuit, then a shootout between Kern County Sheriff\u2019s deputies and a suspect.<\/p>\n
Deputies were originally called to the 500 block of Pepper Drive in Edison. Then the suspect took off and took them on a pursuit all over Bakersfield ending on Highway 58, East of Weedpatch Highway.<\/p>\n

When deputies arrived, the suspect \u2014 who has yet to be identified \u2014 took off in a Toyota 4Runner.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ll be headed westbound on the 58. This one will be a failure to yield. Speeds are at 100,\u201d a pursuing deputy said over the radio.<\/p>\n The entire chase lasted 12 minutes with the suspect taking deputies all the way to west Bakersfield before deputies called off the pursuit.<\/p>\n \u201cShut down code, he\u2019s gonna be southbound in the northbound lane of Old River, speeds are gonna be at 68. We are not in pursuit,\u201d radioed another deputy.<\/p>\n After calling off the pursuit, deputies spotted the 4Runner headed back East on Highway 58.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be a Hispanic male with a buzz haircut,\u201d a deputy radioed when asked to give a description of the suspect.<\/p>\n Then came a crash with a trailer. The 4Runner flipped over and landed on its roof.<\/p>\n \u201cRefusing commands, he\u2019s looking at me,\u201d said a deputy on scene. \u201cShots fired! Shots fired!\u201d<\/p>\n The scene on the highway lasted minutes before another call was made over the radio: \u201cThe driver\u2019s gonna be armed with a semi-automatic silver pistol, he did fire rounds at units.\u201d<\/p>\n The suspect died. He has not been identified by the coroner\u2019s office as of Monday.<\/p>\n
