{"id":267165,"date":"2026-04-14T10:52:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T10:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/267165\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T10:52:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T10:52:11","slug":"ucla-beach-volleyball-to-face-cal-state-bakersfield-in-final-home-match-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/267165\/","title":{"rendered":"UCLA beach volleyball to face Cal State Bakersfield in final home match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fresh faces fill coach Jenny Johnson Jordan\u2019s lineup. <\/p>\n<p>But behind the surging presence of underclassmen, one experienced hand still solidifies the foundation on court one. <\/p>\n<p>Maggie Boyd.<\/p>\n<p>And Tuesday will mark her final time on Mapes Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Hosting its final home match of the season, No. 2 UCLA beach volleyball (25-4) will face Cal State Bakersfield (10-21) on Tuesday for the Bruins\u2019 Senior Day.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike last year \u2013 when there were six combined seniors and graduate students on the roster \u2013 this year\u2019s roster only features one.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout her four-year tenure in Westwood, Boyd earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2022, MPSF Player of the Year in 2025 and was integral to two NCAA runner-up finishes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking back on everything, I\u2019m so grateful,\u201d Boyd said at MPSF Beach Volleyball Media Day on Feb. 17. \u201cThis year I really want to enjoy my time with my team, and my coaches. \u2026 I want to enjoy my time because that\u2019s what I\u2019ll miss the most about everything \u2013 my girls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"(Holden Yung\/Daily Bruin)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/sp.bvb_.pre_.4.13.26.B.HY_.jpg\" data-uniq-id=\"78a2d\" width=\"5866\" height=\"3911\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-507287 size-large\"  \/>Senior Maggie Boyd (left) and sophomore Sally Perez (right) crouch down as they prepare for a serve. (Holden Yung\/Daily Bruin)<\/p>\n<p>Alongside her court-one partner, sophomore Sally Perez, Boyd boasts a 25-3 record heading into the tail end of the regular season. Boyd and Perez also captured the Bruins\u2019 first-ever AVCA National Collegiate Pairs Championship and went 31-4 last spring. <\/p>\n<p>While the Bruins will be celebrating a decorated career, the focus still remains on what\u2019s ahead. <\/p>\n<p>After a 4-0 sweep at the Center for Effort Challenge, earning wins against No. 6 Cal Poly, No. 9 California, No. 13 Arizona State and No. 4 USC, Jordan said that there is still much more to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>And pressure is inevitable in the postseason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s trying to continue to create pressure situations for our team in training. That\u2019s big,\u201d Jordan said. \u201cFor each partnership, each pair, as well as each individual player, they all have their own things (to work on).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After facing Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday, UCLA will face USC for its final match before the postseason.<\/p>\n<p>With the MPSF and NCAA tournaments around the corner, redshirt junior Kenzie Brower said the Bruins\u2019 ability to rely on each other is one of their biggest strengths. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t ask for a better team to do it (compete) with,\u201d Brower said. \u201cThey\u2019re the reason that I get to go out on the court and play and get some of these wins.
