(San Jose Police Dept.)\u00a0<\/p>\nSAN JOSE \u2014 A man has been arrested in connection with what police describe as several unprovoked assaults \u2014 including random attacks on elderly men \u2014 over the past two months in San Jose, and investigators believe there may be more victims who have not come forward.<\/p>\n

Davit Martinez, 32, of San Jose, was arrested Sunday at a family home on Gittle Court in East San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department. Officers were called to the home around 12:55 p.m. for a report of a disturbance in which Martinez was alleged to have assaulted a relative and brandished a machete.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, Martinez holed up inside the home and held police at bay until he was coaxed into surrendering. At the time of his arrest, assaults detectives were already looking for him in connection with three other attacks dating back to February, police said.<\/p>\n
The earliest reported attack was on Feb. 23 around 2:20 p.m., at a gym on McKee Road near North Jackson Avenue, when Martinez reportedly approached an elderly man who was exercising. Police say Martinez punched the man in the face, pulled him to the ground and continued to hit him, knocking the victim unconscious.<\/p>\n
Martinez is also suspected in an attack reported March 8 around 6:50 p.m., in a parking lot of the same complex where the gym is located, when police say he approached then punched and knocked down another unsuspecting elderly man, then continued to hit the man before fleeing. The victim needed stitches for his injuries, police said.<\/p>\n
The next day, officers were called around 11:30 a.m. to a medical office in the 1900 block of Monterey Road for a report that Martinez, while a patient at the site, punched a man in the head. The blow caused the victim to fall backward and become unconscious; Martinez then reportedly fled.<\/p>\n
An arrest warrant had been issued for Martinez for the first three reported attacks prior to the police encounter that ended with his arrest. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on the pattern of these unprovoked acts of violence, investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet been identified,\u201d police said in a news release Tuesday.<\/p>\n
