With Jansen’s jail sentence over, the sibling has made new allegations of abuse.

A Southern California man, already convicted of molesting one young child in Berkeley, is facing new sex crime charges after the child’s sibling came forward too, alleging months of abuse in 2012.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged 52-year-old Jack Jansen, who occasionally uses the middle name Jeremiah, with continuous sexual abuse and two counts of sex crimes with a child age 10 or younger, along with a number of special allegations and conditions that could affect sentencing if he is convicted.

In May 2012 a Berkeley woman came home to find Jansen, who had been staying at her home, and her 7-year-old child “partially unclothed,” police wrote in a 2015 court filing.

The child said Jansen had touched and put his mouth on the child’s genitals and “humped” the child, police wrote.

Police secured a warrant for Jansen that year, in November 2012, but he wasn’t apprehended until December 2015, when Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him for the warrant in Mojave, where he was living at the time, according to court records. He was turned over days later to Berkeley police, who booked him into jail in Alameda County. Jansen ultimately pleaded no contest to a single count of a lewd act upon a child and was sentenced to a year in jail and five years’ probation, according to court records.

The child’s sibling came forward to a parent in October 2025, accusing Jansen of more than five months of sexual abuse in 2012, police said. Berkeley police again got a warrant for Jansen’s arrest, and deputies in Kern County arrested him again on March 26, according to court records. (Jansen, now a registered sex offender, was still living in Kern County, though now in Tehachapi, according to the sheriff’s office there.)

Authorities brought Jansen back to Berkeley and police interviewed him March 30, when he acknowledged he’d been inside the victims’ family’s home, but denied having abused the second victim, police wrote. Jansen has been in custody on $250,000 bail at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin since then.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Jansen April 3. The Alameda County Public Defender’s Office is representing Jansen, who has not yet entered a formal plea, according to court records. He is scheduled to return to court April 16.

Featured photo: Kelly Sullivan for Berkeleyside

“*” indicates required fields

Overview: Jack Jansen, 52, was convicted of sexually abusing a 7-year-old child in Berkeley a decade ago.
