OAKLAND \u2014 A Stockton resident has been arrested and charged with illegal gun possession in an incident that followed police surveillance of the funeral for the man killed in a March 7 mass shooting<\/a> at an after hours club, court records show.<\/p>\n

Marcel Ware, 20, faces felony charges of possessing an assault rifle, gun and ammunition possession by a felon, and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. He was freed from jail on March 31, after posting $190,000 through a bond company, court records show.<\/p>\n

The case stemmed from a police stakeout of the March 24 funeral for Markise Martin, 25, of Oakland<\/a>, who was shot and killed in the early morning of March 7 during a confrontation inside the EZ Lounge. Latetia \u201cTeesh\u201d Bobo, a 33-year-old school teacher and artist<\/a>, was killed by a stray bullet and five others were wounded. No arrests have been made in the shooting.<\/p>\n

Oakland police say their Ceasefire squad was surveilling Martin\u2019s funeral, in Hayward, and observed several men with guns, some of whom loaded into a Kia that had been reported as the suspect vehicle in a Fresno robbery. Two days later, police located the Kia at the 9000 block of Hillside Street in Oakland and attempted a \u201chigh risk\u201d stop, which resulted in the driver ramming police patrol cars, then all three occupants attempting to run.<\/p>\n

Ware was arrested almost immediately, police say. An 18-year-old passenger made it a bit further until he was detained, but was later released without charges. The driver, identified by police as a 19-year-old man, got away. A judge later signed off on a warrant for his arrest, according to court records.<\/p>\n

Ware was charged because, based on where he was seated in the Kia, he had \u201cimmediate access\u201d to two guns inside, police said in court filings. He was convicted of assault weapon possession, a felony, last year in San Joaquin County, court records show.<\/p>\n

The March 7 killing remains under investigation, though authorities have taken legal action against one of the victims. An associate of Martin, who was shot in the foot, was hit with probation violation charges<\/a> for allegedly brandishing a gun in a rap video days after his release from jail in a sexual assault case, court records show.
