Update.<\/p>\n<p>**Six candidates running to be California\u2019s next governor say if elected, they\u2019d roll back regulations that have made it challenging to farm in the state. <\/p>\n<p>Former Los Angeles mayor, Democrat Antonio Villaraigosa referred to a Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo study that found the cost for California lettuce growers to comply with the state\u2019s environmental, labor and food safety regulations increased by more than 1,300% from 2006 to 2024. <\/p>\n<p>Villaraigosa says that\u2019s unsustainable.<\/p>\n<p>**The USDA\u2019s Farm Service Agency has reopened the acreage reporting period to give producers more time to complete 2025 crop acreage reports for eligible ASCF crops, including apples, pears, and cherries. <\/p>\n<p>With an original deadline of March Court in Northern Illinois regarding right-to-repair claims, National Farmers Union President Rob Larew says when critical equipment breaks down, farmers must be able to make timely repairs themselves or work with a trusted mechanic. <\/p>\n<p>Larew says this settlement underscores the urgent need for federal right-to-repair laws that permanently guarantee farmers access to repair tools on fair and
