BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) \u2014 Through a project with Chelsea Investment Corporation along with local and state funding, the latest affordable housing option in Bakersfield was unveiled.<\/p>\n
The project that finished on time and on budget, offers 60 new units from single- to three-bedroom units.<\/p>\n

Click to learn more about KGET+ <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cTwenty five of those units are set aside for farmworkers that are working in the industry here,\u201d said Ryan Lundergan, a project executive for Chelsea Investment Corporation.<\/p>\n The final $1.3 million funding from the state, and something the community is eager to grow.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re saying back to those farmworkers, you belong here. You deserve stability, you deserve this place to call home,\u201d Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh said.<\/p>\n This follows a citywide effort to create more affordable housing for the local ag community.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are significant needs for folks to find housing, farmworkers deserve to be able to live in the neighborhood that they work in,\u201d said Lundergan.<\/p>\n This is the fifth project that Chelsea Investment, an affordable housing development company, has partnered with the city to create 300 affordable units.<\/p>\n Renaissance at Baker opens its doors to low-income renters <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a range of needs here for different families and what they might make per year, and we can right size them to the correct units based on their income,\u201d said Lundergan.<\/p>\n The difference for farmworkers here as opposed to other complexes, is that the current and former farmworker families can benefit from reduced rates.<\/p>\n As opposed to limiting to just current farmworker families, the complex also welcomes retired farmworkers families, something that hadn\u2019t been done in the past.<\/p>\n
