Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for several people involved in a violent beating at a South Sacramento gas station that left a man hospitalized on Monday, as video of the attack spreads on social media.<\/p>\n
The attack, captured on camera, is now at the center of an active investigation. Authorities say it began as a verbal exchange between two men at a Fastrip gas station before escalating within seconds.<\/p>\n
Video shows one man holding a two by four as several others join in, turning the confrontation into a group assault.<\/p>\n
“I haven’t seen anything like that that serious since I’ve been living here, and I’ve been living here for like, probably like 15 years,” said Daniel.<\/p>\n
Daniel, a store customer who watched the video, said he was shocked to see multiple people attack a single person.<\/p>\n
“It’s difficult to watch, obviously, not only are people being assaulted, the victim being assaulted, but it would appear that he gets knocked unconscious and then he’s continually assaulted, kicked in the head. Smacked with some other item. It really shocks the conscience to be able to see people treat other people this way,” said Sgt. Edward Igoe, spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n
Sgt. Igoe said deputies responded after receiving calls Monday reporting the assault.<\/p>\n
“The caller had stated that 3 to 4 black male adults had assaulted a Hispanic male adult and ultimately took his vehicle as well. They added that there was a two by four involved, and ultimately, a second caller had called in and said that that initial victim was now unconscious, so our deputies responded out there,” Sgt. Igoe said.<\/p>\n
Deputies provided aid to the victim until first responders arrived, and he was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n
The following morning, the sheriff\u2019s office located the victim\u2019s truck and now has it in its possession. Investigators plan to examine it for evidence, including fingerprints and DNA.<\/p>\n
Detectives are working to determine what led up to the attack and to identify those involved so they can be questioned. Any charges will depend on how the incident began and unfolded, Igoe said.<\/p>\n
“It could’ve been a tragic day. If anybody knows these people, they should come out and say something, because I mean, if it was your family member or just anybody… It’s not OK,” said Daniel.<\/p>\n
The sheriff\u2019s office is urging anyone with information to come forward, saying those responsible must be held accountable.<\/p>\n
