{"id":270163,"date":"2026-04-16T03:54:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T03:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/270163\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T03:54:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T03:54:07","slug":"san-jose-sharks-blow-lead-lose-to-chicago-blackhawks-at-united-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/270163\/","title":{"rendered":"San Jose Sharks blow lead, lose to Chicago Blackhawks at United Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Defenseman Mario Ferraro and center Michael Misa both scored before everything went off the rails for the San Jose Sharks, who couldn\u2019t manage the puck and allowed five unanswered goals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/sjs-vs-chi\/2026\/04\/15\/2025021305\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in a 5-2 loss<\/a> to the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday at the United Center.<\/p>\n<p>Leading 2-0, the Sharks allowed a goal to defenseman Sam Rinzel with 30 seconds left in the second period and two goals to Louis Crevier and one to both Ryan Greene and Nick Lardis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/scores\/htmlreports\/20252026\/GS021305.HTM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in a one-sided third<\/a> as they lost for the fourth time in five games.<\/p>\n<p>Connor Bedard had two assists for the Blackhawks, who snapped a four-game losing streak.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s game marked the first time this season that the Sharks had lost a game in regulation time when they took a lead into the third period. They had been 27-0-2 in that circumstance before Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Sharks goalie Yaroslav Askarov made 19 saves as he finished the regular season <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/04\/11\/san-jose-sharks-vancouver-canucks-macklin-celebrini-jake-debrusk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">with a record of 21-20-4 i<\/a>n 47 games. Among Askarov\u2019s saves was a stop of Ilya Mikheyev\u2019s penalty shot attempt at the 16:22 mark of the first period.<\/p>\n<p>Askarov finished the season having won just two of his last nine starts, with an .871 save percentage in that time.<\/p>\n<p>Although eliminated from playoff contention, the Sharks were hoping to build on Monday\u2019s 3-2 road win over the Nashville Predators. But they managed just four shots on net in the third period and 17 for the game against the Blackhawks, the NHL\u2019s 31st-place team.<\/p>\n<p>Goalie Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to get the start on Thursday when the Sharks (38-37-8) face the Winnipeg Jets to end the regular season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/04\/14\/san-jose-sharks-macklin-celebrin-hart-trophy-connor-mcdavid-edmonton-oilers-nathan-mackinnon-nikitakucherov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Macklin Celebrini<\/a> did not have a point on Wednesday and will enter the Sharks\u2019 game against the Jets with 112 points, two behind Joe Thornton\u2019s single-season team record set in 2006-07.<\/p>\n<p>The Sharks are now 2-18-3 this season when Celebrini doesn\u2019t record a point.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrini also remains tied for second in Sharks history in goals scored in a single season with 44. Patrick Marleau scored 44 goals in 2009-2010, and Owen Nolan scored 44 in 1999-2000.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Cheechoo holds the Sharks record of 56, set in 2005-06. Thornton assisted on 39 of those goals.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrini\u2019s 68 assists are the fifth-most in team history.
