SAN DIEGO (FOX 5\/KUSI) \u2014\u00a0With major shakeups to the California gubernatorial race, Katie Porter\u00a0made\u00a0her\u00a0case to\u00a0San Diego\u00a0voters\u00a0on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Porter, a former member of congress and educator, is among top democrats polling in the June Primary Election.\u00a0In the House, Porter\u00a0was\u00a0known for\u00a0using a\u00a0whiteboard to question\u00a0CEOs and other officials.\u00a0Wednesday\u2019s town hall was part of Porter\u2019s statewide \u201cWhiteboard Warriors Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis race is about what comes next for California,\u201d Porter said. \u201cWe have some incredible opportunities before us but also challenges. Now the most obvious\u00a0challenge, the\u00a0most ugly\u00a0challenge is what Donald Trump is throwing at us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Swalwell out, new poll could alter April 22 debate lineup <\/a><\/p>\n While many democrats have criticized Trump on the campaign trail, Porter said California\u2019s governor must also\u00a0address the problems facing California that predated\u00a0him.\u00a0Porter shared her priority as governor is to make the state more affordable.<\/p>\n \u201cMy whole career has\u00a0been about affordability,\u201d Porter said. \u201cYou may have discovered this is the new favorite word of democratic politicians and republican politicians\u2014to which I say good.\u00a0This has been my life\u2019s work.\u201d<\/p>\n Being a single mother to three children, Porter shared she wants to make California a better state for them and other families to live in.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you hear people talk about kitchen table economic issues,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0my kitchen table,\u201d Porter\u00a0added.<\/p>\n If\u00a0elected, Porter said\u00a0she\u2019d\u00a0represent all Californians, regardless of political party,\u00a0class\u00a0or citizenship status.<\/p>\n \u201cA\u00a0governor\u00a0shouldn\u2019t\u00a0work for\u00a0corporations,\u00a0a governor should work for Californians,\u201d Porter said. \u201cAnd when I say Californians, I mean everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n Recent\u00a0polling<\/a>\u00a0places billionaire turned democratic activist Tom Steyer and Republican Steve Hilton\u00a0as frontrunners. However, support may\u00a0change<\/a>\u00a0following\u00a0former\u00a0frontrunner\u00a0Eric Swalwell<\/a>\u00a0dropping\u00a0out of the race after allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.<\/p>\n Porter said Swalwell\u2019s departure from the election will change the field and is an opportunity to reengage with voters.\u00a0Despite this, Porter said her core values have not changed throughout the race.<\/p>\n Early in the\u00a0campaign, Porter was a leading frontrunner among democrats\u00a0until a viral video\u00a0resurfaced<\/a>\u00a0showing her curse at one of her staff members.\u00a0This coincided with another\u00a0video where Porter tried to end an interview with a reporter early after being asked about\u00a0winning Trump supporter votes.<\/p>\n
