As the calendar turns toward the second half of 2026, the City of Los Angeles is preparing for a significant shift in its economic landscape. While the state minimum wage saw its usual adjustment on January 1,<\/a> the City of Los Angeles<\/a> operates on a separate timeline, with its most significant changes arriving in the summer heat.<\/p>\n

On July 1, 2026, the City of Los Angeles will officially raise its general minimum wage from $17.87 to $18.42 per hour. This $0.55 increase is a mandatory adjustment tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI-W), ensuring that local pay scales keep pace with the unique inflationary pressures of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.<\/p>\n

New General Rate: $18.42 per hour<\/p>\n

Effective Date: July 1, 2026<\/p>\n

Applicability: Any employee performing at least two hours of work per week within the geographic boundaries of the City of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The Citywide Hotel Worker Minimum Wage Ordinance (CHMWO)<\/p>\n

The hospitality industry faces a more substantial adjustment. The CHMWO applies to hotels citywide with 60 or more guest rooms, as well as hotels with 50 or more rooms located within the Airport Hospitality Enhancement Zone<\/a> (AHEZ). The increase is perfectly timed with the 2028 Olympics and the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon.<\/a><\/p>\n

For the period of July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, the rates are as follows:<\/p>\n

Cash Wage: $25.00 per hour<\/p>\n

Health Benefit: $8.15 per hour<\/p>\n
