LONG BEACH, Calif. \u2013 North Dakota track and field saw numerous additions to the record books on Thursday afternoon as a loaded weekend of outdoor competition kicked off out in California.

\nPACIFIC COAST INTERCOLLEGIATE
\nNorth Dakota’s throwing squad represented the Fighting Hawks at the meet hosted by Long Beach State and did so in convincing fashion.
\n\u00a0
\nIt began in the women’s hammer throw, where Cailey Moton<\/a> qualified for the event finals and finished 10th overall with her mark of 189-11 (57.89). The throw marked a new personal best for Moton, improved her position in UND history to fifth all-time and sits second in the Summit League so far this season. Julia Matthews<\/a> also collected a new PR at 187-8 (57.22m), breaking into the Top 10 at ninth all-time and now sits third in the conference. The duo also now ranks 36th and 40th on the NCAA West Qualifying List, respectively. \u00a0

\nAlso competing for the women was Kaylynn Red Tomahawk<\/a>, who finished 28th with a mark of 169-4 (51.62m), while over in the men’s half of the event, Carter Byron<\/a> took 35th with a throw of 141-1 (43.08m).

\nMatthews also appeared in the women’s shot put and registered a mark of 44-3 1\/4 (13.49m) for 32nd place and was joined by Haidyn Skeen<\/a>, who took 44th with a throw of 40-9 3\/4 (12.44m). Tyler Thoreson<\/a> led the finishers for North Dakota in the men’s portion of the event, taking 21st off a throw of 52-11 (16.13m), while Boaz Raderschadt<\/a> (52-3 1\/4, 15.93m, PR) was 23rd.

\nIn the discus throw, Ilaria Villa<\/a> added in another electric performance after claiming 18th place with her throw of 165-6 (50.44m). The new personal best now ranks sixth in the UND Top 10 list, tops the Summit League so far this season and is 44th in the NCAA West Region.

\nSeveral Fighting Hawks also competed in opening day competition at Azusa Pacific and the distance athletes put on a show.

\nSection Open A of the women’s 10,000-meter run saw two UND athletes break into the school record books following a pair of dominating freshman performances. Marie-Louise Jorgensen<\/a> crossed the finish line 11th with a time of 34:53.59 for a new personal best and the fifth-best time in school history. Katie Rogers followed behind in 35:32.96 for 35th place which gave her a new PR and the eighth-best clocking in UND history. The pair also now sit fifth and sixth, respectively, in the conference.

\nIn the men’s half of the event, Niko Angell<\/a> clocked a time of 32:25.07 for 26th place in the Open B section.

\nOver in the open 3000-meter steeplechase, Henrik Lindstrot<\/a> finished in 12th place with a time of 8:51.27 while for the women, Frida Giersdorff<\/a> ran a 10:17.54 for 20th overall.

\nWeekend competition will resume tomorrow at the Bryan Clay Invitational while kicking off at the Beach Invitational and Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational.
