Starting April 17, officers will target high-incident areas in Venice, Hollywood, and South L.A.<\/p>\n

Local law enforcement will ramp up enforcement against impaired driving this weekend with a series of checkpoints across the city, the Los Angeles Police Department announced.<\/p>\n

Beginning Friday evening, officers will monitor high-traffic corridors to identify drivers under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs, or marijuana. Department officials selected the specific enforcement sites based on historical data regarding DUI-related arrests and traffic collisions.<\/p>\n

The checkpoints are scheduled to operate from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the following intersections:<\/p>\n

Friday, April 17:\u00a0Lincoln Boulevard and Maxella Avenue.<\/p>\n

Saturday, April 18:\u00a0Century Boulevard and Western Avenue.<\/p>\n

Saturday, April 18:\u00a0Sunset Boulevard and Coronado Street.<\/p>\n

Sunday, April 19:\u00a0Manchester Avenue and Avalon Boulevard.<\/p>\n

The LAPD emphasized that recreational and medicinal marijuana use, while legal, remains a criminal offense if a driver is impaired behind the wheel. First-time DUI offenders in California face an average of\u00a0$13,500\u00a0in total costs, including fines, penalties, and legal fees, alongside a mandatory driver\u2019s license suspension.<\/p>\n

Officials stated the primary goal of the checkpoints is education and the removal of dangerous drivers to reduce roadway fatalities. These operations are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n
