She has multiple sclerosis. TMZ received a statement from Applegate’s representative, but it was cryptic.<\/p>\n “I have no comment whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast,” the statement read.<\/p>\n Applegate has opened up about her condition in the past. She described how difficult the diagnosis was for her daughter. “We got into a big thing the other day \u2014 and sorry Sadie, but it has to be said \u2014 she said, \u2018I miss who you were before you got sick,’\u201d Applegate recalled on Kelly Ripa\u2019s\u00a0\u201cLet\u2019s Talk Off Camera\u201d podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to the Mayo Clinic, “In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers, known as myelin. This interrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage of the nerve fibers.”<\/p>\n What are the symptoms? “Symptoms of MS depend on the person, the location of damage in the nervous system and how bad the damage is to the nerve fibers. Some people lose the ability to walk on their own or move at all. Others may have long periods between attacks without any new symptoms, called remission.
