The four parties\u00a0trying to\u00a0buy the Padres<\/a>\u00a0submitted a second round of bids on Tuesday and all approached the $3.5 billion mark, a source close to the negotiations told Times of San Diego.<\/p>\n

But the eventual Padres sales price \u2014 already expected to be the largest in Major League Baseball history \u2014 could still go higher.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because the Seidler family could still push for a third round of bids from the interested buyers, the source said, though that has not yet been determined.<\/p>\n

Stop Balancing the Budget on the Backs of Our Youth<\/a><\/p>\n

Last month, I watched Mayor Todd Gloria take the stage at a youth mentoring event, outlining for the crowd how important youth programming is to the city\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

Now, only a month later, he is threatening to\u00a0completely cut the office<\/a>\u00a0that serves the young people he was speaking to. For Mayor Gloria, young San Diegans appear to be convenient backdrops for social media posts. While he is happy to smile for the camera, his proposal for the city\u2019s budget tells a different story. In Gloria\u2019s San Diego, children are treated as political clout pawns, not priorities. You cannot\u00a0claim to champion youth<\/a>\u00a0in a\u00a0press release<\/a>\u00a0while systematically defunding the office dedicated to their success.<\/p>\n

If the mayor ever wants to stand alongside young San Diegans again and promise he\u2019s building them a brighter future, then we insist he actually take action on prioritizing children and youth by reinstating the Office of Child and Youth Success.<\/p>\n
