{"id":272634,"date":"2026-04-17T14:06:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T14:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/272634\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T14:06:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T14:06:08","slug":"sacramento-ca-dead-rodent-cockroaches-shutter-restaurants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/272634\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacramento CA: Dead rodent, cockroaches shutter restaurants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dead rodents, live cockroaches and a rodent dropping inside a bag of flour caused four Sacramento County restaurants and markets to be shut down last week.<\/p>\n<p>An additional 13 eateries were cited by county health officials for health code violations ranging from mold buildup to a cook wiping their hands on a paper towel from the garbage.<\/p>\n<p>What do these inspections mean?<\/p>\n<p>While a yellow placard signals two or more major violations, these are typically corrected or mitigated during the inspection, according to the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/emd.saccounty.gov\/EH\/Documents\/Inspection%20Guide%2010-24-24.pdf\">Sacramento County Retail Food Inspection Guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A red placard, however, signals \u201cimminent danger to public health and safety\u201d and suspends the health permit until violations are corrected. This could include, but is not limited to, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/local\/article288124385.html\">major vermin contamination<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, a green placard means a restaurant passed inspection. The county performs about 14,000 inspections annually and about 97% of establishments pass, spokesman Ken Casparis previously told The Sacramento Bee.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 1% of inspections result in a closure, he said.<\/p>\n<p>These were the results of Sacramento County food facility inspections for Thursday, April 9, through Wednesday, April 15, as of Thursday, April 16. Most of the roaches were found around a water heater and near a dairy cooler.Inspectors noted about 10 dead drain flies in ice buildup on the walls of a freezer.\u201cBlack mold-like growth\u201d was found on shelves inside coolers that had been turned off.The convenience store had notable dust buildup on the ceiling of its walk-in cooler<\/p>\n<p>Chima Liquor Store was<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/inspections.myhealthdepartment.com\/sacramento\/print\/?task=getPrintable&amp;path=sacramento&amp;pKey=2996CB34-459C-4508-94A5-D3FD13421FBE%2C2996CB34-459C-4508-94A5-D3FD13421FBE\"> reinspected and received a passing score<\/a> on Friday, April 10.<\/p>\n<p>A Sacramento Bee reporter reached out to the store for comment Thursday and could not reach a representative.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/inspections.myhealthdepartment.com\/sacramento\/print\/?task=getPrintable&amp;path=sacramento&amp;pKey=958806B7-87D4-4610-9058-780AB9C4BFAC%2C958806B7-87D4-4610-9058-780AB9C4BFAC\">Arigato Sushi<\/a><\/p>\n<p>1608 Howe Ave., Suite A5, Arden Arcade<\/p>\n<p>Number of violations: 14<\/p>\n<p>Date: Friday, April 10<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/arigatosushi.menu11.com\/\">Arden Arcade sushi restaurant<\/a> was temporarily closed due to live and dead cockroaches around the cooks line and two kitchen sinks. Inspectors observed about 24 cockroaches and other \u201cevidence of a vermin infestation.\u201dVarious \u201cpotentially hazardous foods,\u201d including salmon, cooked shrimp and tuna, each measured more than 10 degrees Fahrenheit higher than is permitted.An ice machine and a walk-in cooler\u2019s racks had \u201cminor mold-like residues\u201d and \u201corganic buildup,\u201d according to the inspection report.Health inspectors found two pots stored on the floor beneath a preparation table.<\/p>\n<p>Arigato Sushi passed a reinspection on Saturday, April 11, after correcting the vermin issue.<\/p>\n<p>When contacted Thursday, an employee for the restaurant said it was fully reopened, but was not able to provide additional comment.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/inspections.myhealthdepartment.com\/sacramento\/print\/?task=getPrintable&amp;path=sacramento&amp;pKey=80E30962-0562-4FB6-9A18-748ADBF2A919%2C80E30962-0562-4FB6-9A18-748ADBF2A919\">New Rice Bowl &amp; Boba Milk Tea<\/a><\/p>\n<p>7416 Fair Oaks Blvd., Carmichael<\/p>\n<p>Number of violations: 4<\/p>\n<p>Date: Saturday, April 11<\/p>\n<p>The<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newricebowlbobamilktea.com\/\"> cafe and restaurant<\/a> was shut down by county officials after they found a dead rodent under the cook line and numerous old rodent droppings inside a bag of flour, on canned foods and on preparation table surfaces.A clogged floor sink had water pooling onto floors next to an ice machine.Chicken was observed to be cooling improperly, inspectors said.<\/p>\n<p>New Rice Bowl &amp; Boba Milk Tea had initially <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/inspections.myhealthdepartment.com\/sacramento\/print\/?task=getPrintable&amp;path=sacramento&amp;pKey=BD48988F-1EB1-41B4-A571-1AFA64269FE9%2CBD48988F-1EB1-41B4-A571-1AFA64269FE9\">failed an inspection on Friday, April 10<\/a>, and it received a green placard after a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/inspections.myhealthdepartment.com\/sacramento\/print\/?task=getPrintable&amp;path=sacramento&amp;pKey=CE188F25-F3C8-46EF-B09E-AF3DBFE6163B%2CCE188F25-F3C8-46EF-B09E-AF3DBFE6163B\">second reinspection<\/a> on Monday, April 13.<\/p>\n<p>A representative for the boba shop declined to comment on the closure Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/inspections.myhealthdepartment.com\/sacramento\/print\/?task=getPrintable&amp;path=sacramento&amp;pKey=68178B0C-5311-436E-9088-8E08BC2F21CE%2C68178B0C-5311-436E-9088-8E08BC2F21CE\">Goldstar Supermarket<\/a><\/p>\n<p>5815 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento<\/p>\n<p>Number of violations: 12<\/p>\n<p>Date: Wednesday, April 15<\/p>\n<p>Inspectors shut down the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/goldstar-supermarket-sacramento-2\">Fruitridge Manor supermarket<\/a> due to a vermin infestation. A dead rodent and more than 100 rodent droppings were found throughout the store, while live and dead cockroaches were around the warehouse\u2019s preparation sink.Officials witnessed a fly land on a fish in a self-service ice bath.Two ice machines in the seafood department had \u201cblack and brown mold-like residue\u201d and \u201cpink and brown slime-like residue.\u201dA handwashing sink in the seafood department had no hot water available.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day, the supermarket\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/inspections.myhealthdepartment.com\/sacramento\/print\/?task=getPrintable&amp;path=sacramento&amp;pKey=C4B1690D-3694-4E70-8762-20C5BABA463B%2CC4B1690D-3694-4E70-8762-20C5BABA463B\">hot food section passed its inspection<\/a>.
