Matthew Brockway Kliewer, 42, was arraigned Thursday in 50th District Court on a six-count warrant for child sexually abusive material-aggravated possession. He\u2019s held in the Oakland County Jail with bond set at $75,000 with a 10% provision \u2014 meaning he can be released if he posts $7,500 cash or surety. If he gets out of jail, he\u2019ll be monitored by electronic tether.<\/p>\n

According to the Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Kliewer was arrested April 13 after he called Oakland County dispatch, requesting a welfare check of his mother who was reportedly having irregular breathing and drifting in and out of consciousness. While deputies were at the home, they spotted printed images of child pornography in plain view, the sheriff\u2019s office said. A search warrant was subsequently obtained and executed, where additional pornographic images, various electronic devices including computers, gaming systems and a cell phone were confiscated, the sheriff\u2019s office said. Thousands of child pornography images were stored on the electronic devices, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
Kliewer\u2019s mother was transported to an area hospital and died on Monday, the sheriff\u2019s office said, adding that circumstances surrounding her death are under investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI appreciate the diligence and attention to detail of our deputies who while they were checking on the welfare of an elderly woman, who sadly passed, were able to see in plain view very\u00a0disturbing child sexually abusive material,\u201d Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated in a news release. \u201cThe terrible toll this takes on children must be laid at the door of the perpetrators.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kliewer faces up to 10 years in prison and\/or a $50,000 fine if convicted. He\u2019s due back in court on April 28 for a probable cause conference before Judge Cynthia Walker. A preliminary exam is scheduled for May 5.<\/p>\n
