<\/p>\nSAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — The signs are up on the Bayshore Freeway, warning drivers about the major closure in San Francisco this weekend.<\/p>\n
A 1.6-mile stretch will be closed between 17th and 4th streets on the Eastbound I-80 Bayshore Freeway.<\/p>\n
The southbound and northbound US-101 Bayshore Freeway to eastbound I-80 connector ramps will also be closed.<\/p>\n
The closures start Friday at 11 p.m. and last through Monday at 6 a.m.<\/p>\n

Caltrans spokesperson Lori Shepherd said they’ve been planning for this for months with various agencies so things go smoothly.<\/p>\n
“Police officers will be out on the street to help direct traffic,” Shepherd said. “CHP is definitely on board. In addition to that, Caltrans has a number of what we call portable, changeable message signs out, so that, in addition to the police support and the CHP support, there’s also a tremendous amount of signage, sufficient signage, to guide people through.”<\/p>\n
BART Spokesperson Chris Filippi said they feel well-prepared to handle the extra riders. But they did make one big change because of the closure.<\/p>\n
“One of the big adjustments that we have made this weekend, while we’re not adding additional trains is we did have some maintenance work planned for Sunday in the Transbay Tube,” Filippi said. “In fact, installing new lighting in the Transbay tube, and what we’ve done is we’ve postponed that work so it doesn’t impact our service. And what that will allow us to do is to run our typical five-line service service on all five lines in the system with 20 minutes between all of our trains.”<\/p>\n
RELATED: Eastbound direction of SF’s Bayshore freeway along I-80 to be shut down this weekend: What to know<\/a><\/p>\n SFMTA spokesperson Michael Roccaforte said there will be some minor re-routes around the construction zone on surface level buses in SoMa, but that no stops will be relocated.<\/p>\n “SFMTA will be putting out parking control officers to conduct traffic control,” Roccaforte said. “They’re going to be playing a critical role when it comes to keeping pedestrians safe when they’re going through the crosswalk or when it comes to keeping the vehicle traffic running smooth and safe, as well as helping any Muni buses clear any of those crowded intersections.”<\/p>\n Caltrans said on an average Saturday and Sunday about 55,000 people combined drive on that stretch of EB-80 during the peak daytime hours.<\/p>\n Caltrans has suggestions for detours on their website<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you need to detour, here’s what Caltrans suggests you do.<\/p>\n Going from southbound US-101 to eastbound I-80, to do the following:<\/p>\n Take Folsom Street to the Essex Street EB-80 on ramp.<\/p>\n For the NB101 to EB 80 detour:<\/p>\n
