The Cookeville High School boys lacrosse team bounced back from opening its Region 2-2A schedule with a loss last Friday by dominating region foe Oakland 17-3 on the road Wednesday.<\/p>\n
With the win, the Cavs improve to an even 5-5 overall and an even 1-1 in the region. The win also kept the Cavaliers\u2019 hopes of a playoff spot alive as they moved solely into second place.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m never going complain about a win, especially a great region win like that,\u201d said CHS head coach Elliot Woods.\u201cThe defense really did a great job causing turnovers, and the offense shared the ball, especially in the second half.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Cavaliers jumped on Oakland early as they roared out to a 6-0 lead before the Patriots finally got on the board in the second quarter. The Cavs took a 10-1 lead into the locker room at the half as a solid defense and opportunistic offense gave the Cavaliers their biggest win of the season.<\/p>\n
Defensively, the Cavaliers only allowed nine shots on goal. Starting goalkeeper Colin Wilmoth gave up two goals on six shots, while freshman Aiden Combs played the fourth quarter, giving up one goal on three shots.<\/p>\n
Offensively, senior William Haynes lead the way with six total points from three goals and three assists. Junior Isaac \u201cBob\u201d Loghry had five points with four goals and one assist, while Julion Dillon (three goals, one assist) and Jack Harrison (one goal, three assists) added four points apiece.<\/p>\n
Senior Caden Reed (two goals, one assist) and Hudson Moss (one goal, two assists) each chipped in three points, while Wilmoth added two assists. The 32-point night (17 goals,15 assists) was the largest offensive output the Cavaliers have had on the season.<\/p>\n
The Cavaliers look to continue their hot play as they host the Centennial Cougars at Eddie Watson field on the CHS campus Saturday evening. The faceoff will be at 5 p.m. and will be the last home game before a 2-game road trip next week to Pope John Paul II in Nashville on the 21st and Knoxville West on the 24th.
