\u201cGreg\u2019s living room … served as the original \u2018office\u2019 for the small startup \u2014 before they moved to\u00a0OpenAI headquarters,\u201d said listing agent Shane Ray in an email to SFGATE. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom and roughly 1,800-square-foot space has been fully renovated and features vaulted ceilings, white oak floors and a private deck off the primary suite overlooking a shared garden.<\/p>\n

The apartment sits in the heart of the neighborhood, which the listing describes as placing you \u201cright at the center of it, with a story that helped shape the future.\u201d Beyond the lore, according to Ray, the building\u2019s facade was recently used as a filming location for \u201cArtificial,\u201d the forthcoming drama about OpenAI directed by \u201cChallengers\u201d and \u201cCall Me By Your Name\u201d director Luca Guadagnino.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cArtificial\u201d stars Andrew Garfield \u2014 who apparently has a penchant for tech startup founder roles<\/a> \u2014 as Altman and Cooper Hoffman as Brockman. The film follows the chaotic 2023 period when Altman was fired and rehired by the company\u2019s board, and it was seen shooting\u00a0all over San Francisco last summer.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 21st Street apartment will be joining a small and storied group of tech founder homes in the Bay Area that have taken on a life of their own. The most famous is likely the Los Altos garage where Steve Jobs and Steve\u00a0Wozniak put together the first Apple computers in 1976. In 2013, the Los Altos Historical Commission voted unanimously to designate the property as a historic resource, with staff citing that the significance was not due to its architecture but \u201cthe property\u2019s association with an event and an individual of historic significance,\u201d\u00a0CNN wrote.<\/a><\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s the Facebook house<\/a> \u2014 a six-bedroom Los Altos rental where Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz and Sean Parker lived during the summer of 2004 for $5,500 a month. After being briefly listed for sale<\/a>, the house went back on the market as a $11,000-a-month rental in July 2022. Moskovitz publicly disputed the whole premise and said the landlord had fabricated much of the background story. There is \u201cnothing historic about this house,\u201d he tweeted at the time. \u201cWe launched Facebook from the Harvard dorm.\u201d<\/p>\n
