Long Beach fireworks fans are furious over the cancellation of a Fourth of July display<\/a>. Now Gov. Gavin Newsom says he will probe the issue, after The California Post reported neighbors were left confused and upset ahead of a planned blowout celebrating America\u2019s 250th birthday. <\/p>\n

Fourth of July revelers were crestfallen after Long Beach axed its \u201cBig Bang on the Bay\u201d for the first time in 15 years after the California Coastal Commission denied the use<\/a> of pyrotechnics over pollution fears.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been going for years. All our friends are talking about how they\u2019ll really miss it,\u201d Long Beach resident Kimberly Oshann told\u00a0The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Founding Fathers<\/a> would be very upset,\u201d added David Newell, another disappointed resident. \u201cLet\u2019s have a little tradition, a little pride.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pyrotechnics were scrapped in favor of a drone show, which another resident, Ed Lippert, called \u201ccrap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thousands typically gather to watch the fireworks over Alamitos Bay on the evening of July 3, but this year\u2019s spectacle, coinciding with America\u2019s 250th anniversary celebration, was tweaked by a five-year permit approved last year in which the city agreed to switch to drones. <\/p>\n

The California Coastal Commission cited concerns that the fireworks could pollute the bay or \u201cdisrupt herons and egrets nesting nearby,\u201d the Long Beach Post reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe I\u2019m in the right, so I\u2019m always going to fight,\u201d\u00a0organizer John Morris, who unsuccessfully appealed the decision, told the paper.<\/p>\n

Newsom\u2019s office weighed in Friday, writing on X that the \u201cvendor AGREED last year that the show would move from a fireworks show to a drone show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, the governor is \u201clooking into the matter,\u201d the post continued. <\/p>\n
