Ward\u2019s 1989 sports comedy film starring Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen and Corbin Bernsen. The film revolves around a baseball team whose owner looking to move it from Ohio to Florida by compiling a losing season record.<\/p>\n<p>An evening with Sir Demis Hassabis and Sebastian Mallaby (Monday)<\/p>\n<p>Journalist Emily Chang will visit the Sydney Goldstein Theater for a conversation with Nobel laureate Hassabis, who is the co-founder and CEO of\u00a0artificial-intelligence company\u00a0Google DeepMind, and writer Mallaby,\u00a0the author of several books, including \u201cThe Infinity Machine: Demis Hassabis, DeepMind, and the Quest for Superintelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Hadestown\u2019 opening night (Tuesday)<\/p>\n<p>This Tony-winning musical is heading back to the Orpheum Theatre for a one-week limited engagement. The event will take place at Rise Over Run, the Timbri Hotel\u2019s rooftop bar, allowing guests to grab beverages and socialize with others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Thompson in conversation with Dafna Lohr (Tuesday)<\/p>\n<p>Physician and author Rebecca Thompson will visit Book Passage\u2019s Ferry Building location for a conversation with colleague Dafna Lohr about \u201cHeld Together: A Shared Memoir of Motherhood, Medicine, and Imperfect Love.\u201d Released last year, the book contains essays on the challenges and obstacles women face around motherhood.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Conjuring Power\u2019 film screenings (Wednesday)<\/p>\n<p>The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts will show short films related to the current exhibition \u201cConjuring Power: Roots &amp; Futures of Queer &amp; Trans Movements.\u201d Works will be presented by filmmakers TT Takemoto, Tina Valentin Aguirre, Augie Robles and Crystal Mason. A film produced by the Oakland Museum of California will also be screened.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018No Place To Grow Old\u2019 (Wednesday)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Internet Archive is teaming up with the League of Women Voters to screen the 2024 documentary about homelessness among senior citizens in Portland, Ore. The exhibition includes large-format photos from over 80 photographers, as well as every issue of \u201cHamburger Eyes.\u201d There will also be related zines, ephemera and books by other well-known photographers.<\/p>\n<p>The opening reception takes place at 5 p.m. The exhibition will be on view through September.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Kinks and Quirks\u2019 (Thursday)<\/p>\n<p>The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Chorale will visit Herbst Theatre for a night in which musicians play famous compositions on period instruments from the era of Beethoven and his contemporaries. Works will be shown by company members Marit Brook-Kothlow, Melecio Estrella, Damara Vita Ganley, Mo Katzman, Wailana Simcock, Jessica Swanson and Patricia West. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jgpg.my.salesforce-sites.com\/ticket\/#\/instances\/a0FVI000006TBCj2AO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tickets are available online<\/a>\u00a0and range from $24 to $40. Shows take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday\u2019s performance is at 3 p.m. The venue is located at 401 Alabama St.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Burden of Proof\u2019 (Friday-Sunday)<\/p>\n<p>Artist Alleluia \u201cManai\u201d Panis will present the world premiere of a dance piece inspired by two Filipina nurses who were wrongfully convicted and incarcerated for the 1975 deaths of patients at a Veterans Administration Hospital in Michigan. The score will include text from the diary of Leonora Perez, one of the nurses, and her son Jason, who was the 2024 San Diego poet laureate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/app.arts-people.com\/index.php?show=308673\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tickets are available online<\/a> for $30.30. For its first performance of the season, more than 30 musicians will peform \u201cThe Soul of the City Since 1882,\u201d an overture consisting of patriotic tunes, beloved classics and other tunes that showcase the band\u2019s prowess.<\/p>\n<p>The admission-free concert runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. along Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Authors in Conversation\u2019 (Sunday)<\/p>\n<p>Author and activist Deborah Santana will visit the Museum of the African Diaspora to chat with novelist Natalie Baszile about Santana\u2019s memoir, \u201cLoving the Fire: Choosing Me, Finding Freedom.\u201d The novel touches on her upbringing by parents Jo Frances and Saunders King, her marriage to musician Carlos Santana and her work with institutions such as the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.<\/p>\n<p>Guests can register online for the event, which will have copies of Santan\u2019s memoir available for sales and subsequent autographs.
