A 63-year-old man died Sunday following a four-vehicle collision on Highway 87 in San Jose, authorities said Monday.<\/p>\n
Offices and an ambulance were dispatched to northbound Highway 87 south of Interstate 280 at 3:15 p.m., where responders found that the collision involved major injuries, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n
A 2003 Nissan Frontier had been traveling northbound when it collided with the back of a 2021 Toyota Siena, causing the Toyota to collide with two other vehicles, authorities said. The two vehicles hit by the Toyota suffered moderate damage.<\/p>\n
The drivers of both the Toyota and Nissan were taken to the hospital for their injuries; the Toyota driver later died, authorities said. The Nissan driver had minor injuries.<\/p>\n
The man who died was identified as a 63-year-old resident of San Jose. His name will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner\u2019s Office after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.<\/p>\n
Authorities said they do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.<\/p>\n
The second and third lanes of Highway 87 were closed for two hours following the collision, authorities added.<\/p>\n
