They\u2019re also building connections to the office park on the north side of the park. This will give cyclists better access to the cross-Alameda trail, about half-a-mile of which cuts through the park.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"505\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Screenshot-from-2026-04-20-13-02-32.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-489048\"  \/>A post about the work from Bike Walk Alameda\u2019s Cyndy Johnsen<\/p>\n<p>Essentially <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.streetsblog.org\/2025\/11\/18\/eyes-on-the-street-the-cross-alameda-trail-is-complete\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">finished late last year<\/a>, the cross-Alameda trail runs four miles east-west across the island, terminating <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.streetsblog.org\/2026\/02\/11\/eyes-on-the-street-shrinking-the-gap-between-fruitvale-bart-and-the-cross-alameda-trail\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on the eastern end at Broadway<\/a>. There\u2019s currently a project underway to improve the connections between this eastern end and the Fruitvale bridge, where it picks up the <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.streetsblog.org\/2026\/02\/11\/eyes-on-the-street-shrinking-the-gap-between-fruitvale-bart-and-the-cross-alameda-trail\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sidewalk-level bike lane on Fruitvale<\/a> for a short and safe trip to BART. On the Western end it goes all the way <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.streetsblog.org\/2023\/06\/27\/eyes-on-the-street-alameda-point-development-first-in-bay-area-to-do-bike-lanes-right\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to the Point housing development and the Seaplane Lagoon ferry terminal with service to San Francisco<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"768\" width=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/PXL_20260417_211526732.MP_-e1776721280168.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-489005\"\/>Where one of the new ramps meets the bike path. Streetsblog has a request out to the city of Alameda to get a better fix on when these connections will be open, but going by previous projections <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alamedaca.gov\/Departments\/Recreation-Parks\/Jean-Sweeney-Open-Space-Park\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">from the city<\/a>, Johnsen\u2019s post on social media seems to be correct: these paths should start opening sometime in May.
