The annual ode to mothers doesn\u2019t have to mean rubbery eggs and burnt toast in bed. Check out one of the many restaurants leaning into full-on splurge mode this year, with luxe menus and scenic setups designed to impress this year. From white-tablecloth feasts to canyon-side firepits, here are the top seven spots where the bill might sting a little, but the payoff makes it all worthwhile \u2014 especially for mother darling.<\/p>\n

As always, book your reservation sooner rather than later as seats fill up right quick.<\/p>\n

The Ritz-Carlton<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re going big this year, this is as big as it gets. The blufftop resort in Dana Point rolls out an all-inclusive brunch buffet<\/a> replete with sweeping oceanic views, live entertainment and a spread that boasts maximum indulgence. Expect everything from chilled seafoods to carved meats to desserts galore from a dedicated sweets station. Reservations are required and seating is preassigned. (Cost: $250 per adult, $125 per child 3 to 9 and complimentary for kids 2 and under.)<\/p>\n

Naisho Omakase<\/p>\n

One of Costa Mesa\u2019s more intriguing recent arrivals<\/a>, Naisho offers two tight-paced omakase experiences under chef and cofounder Shimpei Shinohara. Guests can opt for a 12- or 16-course progression priced at $75 and $100, respectively. The menu is left up to Shinohara; during a recent visit, highlights for that night included a toro tartare with pickled daikon and dashi-marinated ikura (salmon roe), a smoky bluefin tuna and a cold-smoked snapper that Shinohara calls \u201cocean bacon.\u201d Up front at Highball, the venue doubles as a Japanese-style bar, with cocktails and mocktails by Justin Oh and Tony Morabito adding to the appeal. Nashio Omakase<\/a> features two seatings per evening at the 14-seat counter. Also of note: Reservations, which are required, open two weeks in advance.<\/p>\n

For a more quiet, though no less refined, affair, Knife Pleat\u2019s Mother\u2019s Day service (the only Sunday of the the lauded eatery opens) offers a more polished alternative to the usual brunch spot. The Michelin-starred<\/a> dining room leans into an afternoon tea<\/a> of composed sweet and savory sandwiches, delicate pastries and a setting that skews more Parisian than Pacific Coast Highway. Optional caviar and champagne service available should you really want to gild the lily. ($135 per person.)<\/p>\n

Bourbon Steak<\/p>\n

At Michael Mina\u2019s steakhouse inside the Waldorf-Astoria, a stone\u2019s toss from the other aforementioned luxury resort, the three-course prix-fixe dinner<\/a> features dishes like ahi tuna tartare, Hokkaido scallops and filet mignon, with briny decadence like optional caviar service or wagyu add-ons. Other highlights include lobster pot pie and champagne pairings. Seatings from 4 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. (Cost is $205 per guest, $95 per child 3 to 12.)<\/p>\n

The Ranch at Laguna Beach<\/p>\n

For a matriarchal fete that trades white tablecloth for fresh air, The Ranch offers a private firepit brunch<\/a>, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., nestled into a canyon setting just off Coast Highway. Each setup accommodates up to 10 guests per pit with live music and \u00e0 la carte menu from the farm-to-table kitchen (literally, the farm is just a few feet away from the premises). Guests can also visit the on-site mimosa and floral bar, featuring arrangements made from flowers grown right on the property\u2019s farm. (Firepit rentals are $350, with food and beverage available \u00e0 la carte.)<\/p>\n

Abundance \u2013 and then some \u2013 can be found at this Anaheim spot from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This Mother\u2019s Day brunch<\/a> will offer a seafood cold bar featuring and a wide-ranging spread designed to please every craving, from light bites to heartier fare. The space also features a patio on Farmers Park that\u2019s one of the best al-fresco spots in all of Orange County. (Cost is $102 per adult, $45 for kids 8 to 3 and free for children 2 and under.)<\/p>\n

Darkroom<\/p>\n

Saving the best for last: One of the region\u2019s most ambitious<\/a> and acclaimed<\/a> eateries, Darkroom is taking a special route for Mother\u2019s Day<\/a>. If your mom or maternal figure who deserves celebration loves food, then this is the place to go. The multi-course brunch will be designed for the entire table, with dishes like snow crab cocktail, hamachi crudo and braised bacon with miso maple glaze. Don\u2019t miss out on richer dishes like smoked ocean trout benedict with whipped fermented shishito hollandaise or hanger steak with mushroom chimichurri. Optional add-ons, like a luxe lobster omelet for $75, push the holiday further into splurge territory. (Cost is $95 per person.)<\/p>\n
