The Giants<\/a> have had a handful of off days in San Francisco, but Tony Vitello<\/a> has been hesitant to show face in his new city. This week, he faced his fear and ended his night out with a fist bump from comedian Dave Chappelle.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vitello had been fearful of getting into the city because he\u2019d like to get a few more wins under his belt as the Giants\u2019 new manager. That, he thought, might ease conversations between him and the local baseball fans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Giants went into Tuesday\u2019s series against their rival Los Angeles Dodgers off a three-city trip in which they went 4-5, moving to 9-13 on the year and fourth place in the division.<\/p>\n

With Monday\u2019s off day, Vitello decided to get over his fear and went out to a downtown restaurant recommended by a friend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018To hell with it, I\u2019ll go to the restaurant,\u2019\u201d Vitello said.<\/p>\n

He met Giants fans, who told Vitello how much they believed in the Giants despite the slow start under his watch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I returned fire and said, \u2018Well, what do y\u2019all got? You having fun? \u2019\u201d Vitello said. \u201cThey said, \u2018Yeah, we\u2019re getting ready to go to the Dave Chappelle show.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Vitello parted ways with the fans and called an Uber home, but had a change of heart.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was raining. I called an Uber, stared at the Uber. Canceled the Uber\u00a0\u2014 apologies to that Uber driver\u00a0\u2014 and asked myself, \u2018Why am I being so scared? I coach guys and tell them to not be scared,\u2019\u201d Vitello said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After canceling the Uber, Vitello found a ticket into Chappelle\u2019s show at Punch Line near the Embarcadero.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cDave was Dave,\u201d Vitello said. \u201cSo I needed a laugh, and it was good to do something in the city. It was a lot of fun, met some cool people, and then got some rest to get ready for this deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vitello got a fist bump from Chappelle to end the night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since becoming manager, Vitello has shown glimpses of his celebrity connections and cultural reference library in his media availability.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He quoted the Kanye West lyric, \u201cIf you try hard, you die hard\u201d after his first managerial win when discussing how hitters were trying too hard at the plate.\u00a0<\/p>\n
