A 16-year-old boy who allegedly shot a woman dead<\/a> was arrested more than 100 miles from where authorities say he killed her on a rural road in Northern California.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the teen, who authorities did not identify because he\u2019s a minor, shot the woman after assaulting her teen relative hours earlier.<\/p>\n

The suspect allegedly chased the 15-year-old girl through Covelo, an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, while they were both driving in the early hours of Sunday morning, the county sheriff\u2019s office said Tuesday. He was reportedly firing a gun from his car during the ordeal, authorities said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When the girl pulled over, the suspect ordered her out of the vehicle at gunpoint, then physically assaulted her before she managed to get away and call her family, the sheriff\u2019s office said. The teens, who both lived in\u00a0Covelo, had previously dated, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Later that morning, just after 6 a.m., the girl was on the phone with the 38-year-old woman when the suspect shot her several times on a dirt road near Charlie Hurt Driveway, the sheriff\u2019s office said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A citizen drove the woman to the Covelo Volunteer Fire Department, which was not staffed with emergency medical personnel at the time. Deputies and Round Valley tribal police officers then started CPR at a nearby address until paramedics arrived.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene just before 7 a.m. Sunday. The sheriff\u2019s office said Tuesday that her name would be released after an autopsy was complete.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An arrest warrant was sought for the suspect on suspicion of stalking, criminal threats and domestic battery, the sheriff\u2019s office said. Authorities were seeking additional charges, in what they described as a homicide investigation.Police spent Sunday evening searching Oroville, the Butte County town where they believed the suspect had fled, but were unable to locate him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Tuesday morning, Oroville Police officers found the suspect in an Oroville restaurant, the sheriff\u2019s office said, where he fled on foot before he was apprehended.\u00a0<\/p>\n
