BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 Former band coach, Salvador Fabian<\/a>, and Kern High School District are being sued by a \u201cJane Doe\u201d who alleges she suffered months of grooming and sexual abuse by Fabian at Del Oro High School in Bakersfield.<\/p>\n

According to a release, the complaint names the Kern High School District, school administrators, and band staff, alleging \u201csystemic failures that allowed the abuse to occur on campus and during school-sponsored activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the lawsuit, Fabian targeted Jane Doe beginning in September 2025. According to the release, the complaint details a pattern of grooming behavior, including favoritism, private messaging, gifts, and repeated efforts to isolate the student from her peers. \u201cThe conduct escalated into sexual abuse, including unlawful sexual acts that occurred on school grounds, as well as in a vehicle parked in the faculty parking lot,\u201d said in a release.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis case is about a complete breakdown of the most basic duty a school owes its students, namely, to keep them safe,\u201d said ACTS Law attorney Christa Ramey. \u201cThe warning signs here were not subtle. They were visible, repeated, and ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lawsuit alleges that school officials failed to properly vet, supervise, or monitor Fabian, \u201cwho lacked appropriate credentials and was allowed unsupervised access to students.\u201d<\/p>\n

It further alleges that administrators knew or should have known about his inappropriate conduct but failed to intervene.<\/p>\n

The release said, \u201cDespite these warning signs, the lawsuit alleges that no meaningful action was taken to protect Jane Doe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fabian was arrested on October 28, 2025,<\/a> following an on-campus incident that prompted intervention by school officials and law enforcement.<\/p>\n

The complaint also details an incident in October 2025<\/a> in which Fabian allegedly removed the student from campus without parental knowledge and later engaged in sexual acts with her upon returning to school grounds.<\/p>\n

The complaint asserts claims for childhood sexual assault, negligence, negligent hiring and supervision, breach of mandatory duty, and violations of California civil rights statutes.<\/p>\n

The release said Jane Doe has suffered severe emotional distress, trauma, and disruption to her education as a result of the alleged abuse.
