TAMARA, WE NEEDED THIS STORM, ESPECIALLY SACRAMENTO. AND ESPECIALLY AFTER GETTING NEXT TO NOTHING LAST MONTH. IN FACT, COMPARING THIS MONTH TO THE REST OF THE SEASON, IT IS NOW THE WETTEST MONTH WITH A COLLECTIVE 3.43IN AT THE SACRAMENTO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT OVER THE LAST NINE DAYS THAT WE RECEIVED MEASURABLE RAIN THIS MONTH. AFTER THIS WEEK, WE ARE TOTALING MORE THAN 16IN OF RAIN. THIS WATER YEAR, WHICH STARTED LAST OCTOBER. AND THIS STORM BROUGHT US UP TO 96% OF WHERE WE SHOULD BE. STOCKTON AND MODESTO. YOU’RE DOING EVEN BETTER AT MORE THAN 100% OF THE WATER YEAR TO DATE. NOW, COMPARING THIS APRIL TO THE LAST SEVERAL, WE ARE DOING MANY TIMES BETTER. WAY BETTER THAN LAST YEAR WHEN WE RECEIVED LESS THAN A FIFTH OF AN INCH THE ENTIRE MONTH. OUR 3.43IN THIS MONTH, MORE THAN THREE TIMES THE NORMAL. AND NOW THIS APRIL IS THE FOURTH BEST ON RECORD FOR THE SACRAMENTO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT, WHICH DATES BACK TO 1941. THE MONTH ISN’T OVER YET, AND TO SEE IF WE MIGHT GET ANY MORE THIS MONTH, LET’S GO BACK TO TAMARA IN THE STUDIO. I THINK IT’S SAFE TO SAY THE STORM DOOR IS STILL OPEN, BUT THERE’S GOING TO BE SPECIFIC AREAS AS WE GET INTO THE WEEKEND THAT WILL SEE, LET’S SAY, MORE MEASURABLE RAINFALL THAN OTHERS. LET’S GO THROUGH THIS NOW WITH FUTURECAST. THIS IS FOR THURSDAY AGAIN. SUNSHINE. GET OUT THERE. ENJOY THIS BEAUTIFUL SPRING DAY. A FEW MORE CLOUDS WILL FILTER THE SUN TOMORROW, BUT WE’RE STILL LOOKING DRY IN THE VALLEY AND FOOTHILLS. WE COULD SEE SOME HIGHER ELEVATION RAIN SHOWERS NOW. SATURDAY A BETTER DAY FOR SHOWERS TO BLOSSOM, BUT NOTICE WHERE IT IS CONFINED MAINLY TO THE SIERRA. COULD WE GET A BRIEF SHOWER INTO THE FOOTHILLS? A POSSIBILITY, BUT I’D SAY IF YOUR KIDS HAVE OUTDOOR PLANS, THEY’RE PLAYING BASEBALL, SOCCER, SOCCER OR GETTING OUT. FOR SOME RUNNING, IT IS GOING TO BE A. YOU CAN KEEP THOSE PLANS INTACT. I WOULD SAY NOW, SUNDAY, THIS SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO TRACK OFF TO THE EAST. SO I HIGHLIGHTED WHICH DAYS WE COULD SEE THE SHOWER ACTIVITY INCREASE IN THE FOOTHILLS. I’D SAY THAT SUNDAY, A CHANCE FOR A BRIEF SHOWER AND THEN FOR THE SIERRA PRETTY MUCH. I’VE GOT THOSE CHANCES FOR RAIN AND HIGH ELEVATION SNOW. WE’RE TALKING MAINLY ABOVE 7000FT THROUGH MUCH OF THE WEEKEND IN THE SIERRA. NOW, THE VALLEY AS A RESULT OF THAT SYSTEM THAT’S JUST GOING TO SPIN AROUND. IT’S GOING TO BRING SOME COOLER AIR IN TO DROP OUR TEMPERATURES FROM LOW 70S TO WRAP UP THE WORKWEEK INTO THE 60S STRAIGHT THROUGH THE WEEKEND. BUT HEY, I’

How much rain did Sacramento see this month compared to past Aprils? Since the water year began in October, Sacramento has now picked up more than 16 inches of rain, amounting to 96% of normal for this point in the season. Stockton and Modesto are doing even better, both sitting above 100% of normal water year to date. This April also stands out when compared to recent years. Sacramento has received far more rain than it did last April, when less than one-fifth of an inch fell during the entire month. With the 3.43 inches recorded so far, this April is running at more than three times the monthly normal and now ranks as the fourth-wettest April on record at Sacramento Executive Airport, where records date back to 1941.Looking ahead, there is still a small chance those totals could climb even higher as the weather pattern remains unsettled through the rest of the month. A series of weak disturbances will move through the region, and while the mountains are expected to pick up most of the moisture, a few showers cannot be ruled out in the Valley.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel

      SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

After this week’s storms, this month now ranks among Sacramento’s wettest Aprils.

This week’s storm brought critical rainfall, especially to Sacramento, after the region saw very little rainfall last month.

In fact, April has now become the wettest month of the season so far at Sacramento Executive Airport, with a total of 3.43 inches of rain recorded over a collective nine days this month.

This week’s storm has also made a big difference in the broader water year totals.
