SAN DIEGO, Calif. \u2014 The No. 8-seeded University of Hawai’i women’s tennis team fell to No. 4-seed Long Beach State 4-0 in the Big West Championship quarterfinals on Thursday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Despite\u00a0UH’s\u00a0strong showing in doubles, LBSU secured the victory by clinching the first three singles matches.<\/p>\n
The conference\u00a0tournament concluded the 2025-26 campaign for the Rainbow Wahine, who\u00a0finished the season with a record of 7-11, while going 3-6 during the Big West season. Long Beach State\u00a0improved to 14-10\u00a0and advanced to the semifinals.<\/p>\n
In doubles, Hawai’i showed an early spark on Court 2, where Hannah Galindo<\/a> and Makeilah Nepomuceno<\/a> powered through to a 6-2 victory over LBSU’s Pamela Badillo and Thea Jagare. However, the Beach responded with identical 6-4 wins on Courts 1 and 3 to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.<\/p>\n The match slipped away from the ‘Bows in singles as Long Beach State won the first three matches at Courts 6, 5, and 1 to clinch the match. On Court 6, UH’s Isabella Pampulov<\/a> fell 6-0, 6-0 to Daria Malaescu. Allaire Berl<\/a> put up a fight in a hard-fought first-set tiebreaker but eventually dropped her match 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. The Beach’s Cecilia Costa clinched the overall match for LBSU by defeating Grete Gull<\/a> in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.<\/p>\n Three matches were left unfinished once the dual score reached 4-0.
