WASHINGTON, April 23 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday his \u200cadministration will be looking into banks, singling out \u200cWells Fargo, regarding payments and the treatment of debts in \u200bthe aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires, after he met with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.<\/p>\n
“Wells Fargo, in \u200cparticular, has been \u2060very difficult to deal with,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “The \u2060Banks must treat those people, who so horribly lost their Homes in this tragic fire, very \u200bfairly and \u200bwell.”<\/p>\n
In a joint statement \u200bposted to Bass’ X \u200caccount on Wednesday, Bass and Barger said they “they had a very positive discussion about FEMA and other rebuilding funds, as well as the support of the President to continue joining us \u200cin pressuring the insurance companies \u200bto pay what they owe – \u200band for the \u200bbig banks to step up to \u200cease the financial pressure on \u200bL.A. families.”<\/p>\n
The \u200b2025 Palisades Fire in Los Angeles and Eaton Fire in Altadena killed 22 people, destroyed \u200bsome 12,000 \u200chomes and caused over $50 billion in property damage.<\/p>\n
