STEPPING BACK AND LOOKING AT THE LONGWAVE PATTERN OVER EPAC AND CONUS REVEALS AN INTERESTING PATTERN. THE EPAC IS HIGHLY AMPLIFIED WITH A SOLID RIDGE EXTENDING INTO E AK AND W BC WITH A LOW OFF THE CA COAST WITH A REX BLOCK VIBE. FARTHER EAST TWO PRONOUNCED UPPER LOWS SPIN, ONE NORTH OF MT AND THE OTHER EAST OF NOVA SCOTIA WITH A RIDGE SMACKED IN BETWEEN WITH AN OMEGA BLOCK VIBE. Radar is quiet this afternoon after a period of active weather, and visible satellite imagery shows mostly clear skies with a few cumulus clouds near the hills. Increased sunshine has led to warmer temperatures across the region. The larger weather pattern over the eastern Pacific and continental United States reveals a highly amplified ridge extending into eastern Alaska and western British Columbia, with a low-pressure system off the California coast resembling a rex block pattern. Meanwhile, two upper-level lows are spinning—one north of Montana and the other east of Nova Scotia—with a ridge between them, creating an omega block pattern. Closer to home, a weak embedded shortwave and fuzzy upper low off the California coast are slowly moving eastward. As this feature progresses, high clouds will increase over the region tonight and Friday, potentially limiting fog production but allowing for some low stratus clouds. Forecast models suggest radar echoes may appear tonight, though Friday morning is expected to remain dry. Increased cloud cover will lead to cooler temperatures Friday, with highs dropping below seasonal averages. A cooler and wetter trend is expected for the weekend. Broad troughing will persist over the region, reinforced by upper-level lows. Another upper low is forecast to move over the area Friday night into Saturday, followed by additional vort maxes through Sunday. These features, combined with subtropical moisture pulses, will bring drizzle and light rain showers from Friday night through Sunday morning. Accumulation is expected to be minimal, ranging from trace amounts to a few hundredths of an inch, with coastal mountains likely to see slightly enhanced precipitation due to low-level lift. Weekend temperatures will remain below seasonal averages, with highs in the upper 50s and 60s. By early next week, 500-millibar heights will begin to rebound, initiating a gradual warming and drying trend. No precipitation is forecast from Monday through Wednesday. State satellite imagery shows current cloud, rain, and snow patterns, while futurecast models indicate when clouds and rain may arrive in the coming days. Along the West Coast and California, sunshine and areas of bay fog are expected for the next few days. Wind speeds tomorrow are forecast to be light in the morning, becoming breezy in some valley and mountain areas and along the coast by the afternoon. Tonight’s forecast includes clear skies with areas of bay fog and cool overnight temperatures. Coastal areas will see morning fog followed by afternoon sunshine and a sea breeze. Inland areas, including hills and valleys, will experience warmer conditions with plenty of sunshine. High temperatures across the region tomorrow are expected to be average, with specific forecasts for the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Cruz Mountains, coastal areas from Santa Cruz to Aptos, the Salinas Valley—including Salinas, Soledad, Gonzales, and King City—and the Santa Clara Valley, including Morgan Hill and Gilroy.

      SALINAS, Calif. —

Seasonal temperatures and dry conditions return to California today, but cooler weather and light rain are expected this weekend, followed by a warming trend early next week.

Radar is quiet this afternoon after a period of active weather, and visible satellite imagery shows mostly clear skies with a few cumulus clouds near the hills.
