Click to learn more about KGET+ <\/a><\/p>\n Two decades later, questions remain, and his father, Wesley Davis Jr., is still fighting to keep his son\u2019s memory alive.<\/p>\n \u201cNothing even comes close to my own son being murdered,\u201d Wesley Davis Jr. said.<\/p>\n Police suspected gang members. But now, the case has gone cold.<\/p>\n \u201cObviously, it\u2019s still devastating for me,\u201d Wesley Davis Jr. said. \u201cI haven\u2019t heard anything from investigators in years.\u201d<\/p>\n In a statement to 17 News, Detective Frank McIntyre, who took over the cold case homicide at the Bakersfield Police Department three years ago, said:<\/p>\n RELATED: \u2018People may forget, but we won\u2019t\u2019: Walk For Peace honors people killed by violence <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cAlthough there has not been any arrests made in this case, I can personally attest to the fact there are numerous active and tangible leads detectives are currently exploring to bring closure to Wendale\u2019s family.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cIt can be beneficial to update a victim\u2019s family on current leads, but it can be far more important to maintain the integrity of those leads for the benefit of the investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n Wendale Davis, 16 at the time, was fatally shot in Southeast Bakersfield on April 23, 2006. The case remains unsolved.<\/p>\n Wendale Davis was a junior at West High School. He served at his local church and had big aspirations. His father said he was not involved in gangs and was tragically just at the wrong place at the wrong time.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was very intelligent, very sharp \u2014 aspired to become a fireman,\u201d Wesley Davis Jr. said. \u201cJust a really great guy. Honestly, he really was the star of my family, so that\u2019s really painful, and it continues to be.\u201d<\/p>\n But through the pain, Wesley found a new passion for life \u2014 the Wendale Davis Foundation<\/a>. A non-profit that serves as a mentorship program for troubled youth and a resource for underprivileged communities \u2014 all while honoring his son.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s just a beautiful thing to be able to deter someone else from going and committing a crime such as what was committed against my family,\u201d Wesley Davis Jr. said.<\/p>\n Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
