It\u2019s spring semester at UC Berkeley, and your friends from different colleges are making plans to come visit you for the weekend. You want to give them the perfect day of fun, so that they can see your beautiful life here. If you\u2019re having trouble deciding where to take them, here is a guide on what to do and where to take your friends, based on their vibes. Since we are all multilayered, multifaceted, multi-vibed, etc., feel free to mix and match to create the perfect itinerary for your visitors.<\/p>\n
Crunchy outdoor granola<\/p>\n
For the crunchy, outdoorsy granola friend, visit the Ecology Center\u2019s Farmers Markets in Downtown Berkeley, open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Here, they will find the fresh, locally grown produce of their dreams. If the farmers market doesn\u2019t work for you, you can also take them to Berkeley Bowl, where all sorts of fruits and produce are available and in season. Take your groceries and head to Charles Lee Tilden Regional Park, where you can take a hike or go for a swim in Lake Anza Swim Complex, which reopens May 16. End the day by taking the bus to the Berkeley Marina, taking a walk by the water and watching the sunset.<\/p>\n
Artsy creative<\/p>\n
To familiarize your artsy friend with the creative scene at Berkeley, the first step is to walk around campus and look at all of the flyers. The best places to find them would be the posts by Upper Sproul Plaza or the Anthropology and Art Practice building. There are always flyers advertising art student exhibitions, studio workshops open to Berkeley students and creative opportunities to get involved in. Next, take them to one of the many reusable art supply stores near Berkeley. They can get a bunch of supplies, and you both can have a crafting day together. If they like museums, take them to the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive to see the different installations currently on view.<\/p>\n
Fashionista<\/p>\n
For the fashionista friend, go for a Berkeley thrifting crawl and hit up Anastasia\u2019s Vintage, Goodwill, Out of the Closet Thrift Store and Crossroads. It will take a lot of digging, but they\u2019ll probably be able to find something they like or that they can magically pull off \u2014 after all, they are a fashionista. The Curiosity Shop is the next stop, where there is so much jewelry, and they usually charge you based on vibes. Every time I have a friend come visit me in Berkeley, I bring them here, and they love it. If they\u2019re feeling unsatisfied with the thrifting at Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco are just a BART ride away. In San Francisco, they can find more curated vintage shopping on Haight Street, and if it is the third Saturday of the month, make sure to take them to the Wardrobe Project Flea in Oakland.<\/p>\n
Studious nerd<\/p>\n
Your nerdy friends will fit right in at UC Berkeley, the place where nerds of all sorts are collectively located. For your friend who wants to get some work done before anything, take them on a walk down College Avenue to find the perfect cafe to study at for a couple of hours. The first one you go to might be busy, but no worries, because there are so many to choose from. My personal favorite, 1951 Coffee Company, isn\u2019t on College Avenue, but it is just a block away. The people working there are really nice, the coffee is good, and it is very conveniently located, just outside Unit 3. I recommend ordering the iced honey oat latte. If they are incredibly locked-in and want silence, show them some of the most beautiful libraries on campus. Morrison Library is great if they have some reading they have to get done without a laptop, and the Jean Gray Hargrove Music Library is a beautiful library that usually isn\u2019t too crowded. Of course, you can\u2019t miss the bookstore Moe\u2019s Books, where they can get lost in the shelves, browsing for hours until you tell them it\u2019s time to leave.<\/p>\n
Serene and grounded<\/p>\n
For the friend who loves to meditate and ground themselves, fresh air and calm vibes are essential. Find yourself a spot on campus near Strawberry Creek to lounge around and chill. The Eucalyptus Grove is also a great spot if you want to stay out of the sun and get some more privacy. If they are feeling more social, perhaps take them to Memorial Glade so that they can be in community with the other sunbathers at the school.<\/p>\n
Soon enough, your friends will be checking Berkeley housing prices and planning to move in with you.
