Ready for more playoff hockey?\u00a0<\/p>\n
The San Diego Gulls are\u00a0ready\u00a0to\u00a0bounce back and\u00a0leave it all out on the ice\u00a0in\u00a0Game 2\u00a0of their\u00a0best-of-three\u00a0Pacific Division First Round\u00a0series with the Colorado Eagles tonight\u00a0at Blue Arena (6:05 p.m. PDT; TV: AHLTV on\u00a0FloHockey; Radio: Gulls Audio Network).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Gulls must win tonight\u2019s\u00a0game\u00a0to stay alive in\u00a0their playoff run.\u00a0The team fell to the Eagles\u00a0on Wednesday\u00a0night in\u00a0Game 1\u00a0and\u00a0looking\u00a0to avoid\u00a0getting swept tonight. If the Gulls are successful, they will continue to the\u00a0rubber match\u00a0on Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We know\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0at stake,”\u00a0forward\u00a0Judd Caulfield\u00a0said. “It’s\u00a0a three-game series, so\u00a0we’re\u00a0backs\u00a0against\u00a0the wall a little bit for this game on Friday. But we know that\u00a0we’ve\u00a0been\u00a0counted\u00a0out a lot all season. So, we know that\u00a0we’re\u00a0going to\u00a0have to come out hard and just show what we got.\u00a0We’ve\u00a0been working for this for eight months now. So, we know\u00a0what\u00a0we\u00a0got\u00a0to do.\u00a0We’re\u00a0going to\u00a0go take care of business.”<\/p>\n
Wednesday\u2019s\u00a0game kicked off this series, ending in a 3-0 shutout by Colorado. Despite the shutout, the Gulls were\u00a0still in the game until the end\u00a0with credit to goaltender\u00a0Damian Clara\u00a0who\u00a0saved 24-of-26\u00a0shots. The Gulls\u00a0were not able to\u00a0capitalize on their chances to\u00a0find the back of the\u00a0net but\u00a0look to\u00a0improve on\u00a0that tonight.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I thought we competed really hard tonight,”\u00a0Caulfield said. “There’s so much care in the locker room, and our compete level is\u00a0definitely there, but we\u00a0just\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0really play smart enough tonight. We gave them a lot of luck.\u00a0Damian [Clara]\u00a0bailed us out plenty of times, and we\u00a0didn’t\u00a0capitalize on our chances either. I thought we had a lot of good looks. [Trent] Miner\u00a0played well for them, and we know\u00a0we’re\u00a0going to\u00a0have to come back hard on Friday and finish our chances and limit theirs.”<\/p>\n
San Diego\u00a0is searching for its first Calder Cup Playoff win since 2018-19, where\u00a0the Gulls\u00a0made a run to the Western Conference Finals.\u00a0The team\u00a0proved\u00a0they\u00a0can beat\u00a0Colorado\u00a0in the\u00a0regular season, taking two games on the road,\u00a0and\u00a0plan to replicate that tonight.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I\u00a0think the biggest thing right now is\u00a0keeping discipline, to be able to stay positive, and also have\u00a0real open minds about opportunities for growth, because we left some stuff on the ice today,”\u00a0head coach\u00a0Matt\u00a0McIlvane\u00a0said. “To\u00a0be able to look at it with an honest perspective and own it so that we have a chance to move forward for the next game.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
