Take something and leave something. It\u2019s a simple action that\u2019s taken social media by storm. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think it’s a really fun idea for the kids to trade maybe a few extra things that they have laying around the house that maybe they don\u2019t use that maybe another kid might like or enjoy,\u201d said parent Verenice Calderon.<\/p>\n
Parent Verenice Calderon says they would normally spend the day indoors \u2014 that is, until she heard about trinket boxes.<\/p>\n
Trinket boxes have taken social media by storm, filled with everything from stickers to small toys. The concept is simple, take one, leave one.<\/p>\n
But what started as an online trend is now showing up in neighborhoods all across the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery time I come here I see a different trinket,\u201d said Donna Arriaga.<\/p>\n
The Bakersfield \u201cTrinkets and More\u201d box, located off Panorama, has been up since February 21st.<\/p>\n
Donna Arriaga says she created the box after seeing videos online \u2014 but never expected it to grow this quickly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’ve noticed that there\u2019s a whole community around it and it\u2019s brought a lot of people together,\u201d Arriaga said.<\/p>\n
Yet, even with the growing community, Arriaga says she\u2019s faced some setbacks \u2014 including vandalism to the box.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought about taking it down but I’m just going to repaint it. It brings me joy having the box up for other people because I know people really enjoy it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Arriaga says the messages, photos, and videos she gets from the community are what keep her motivated to maintain the box for families like Calderon\u2019s.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for the trinket trading boxes they\u2019re really fun, we really enjoy them, me and my family do anyways,\u201d Calderon said.<\/p>\n
Trinket boxes everywhere have one goal in mind, to bring a little bit of joy into your day. So, when you visit, remember the rule of thumb: take something and leave something.<\/p>\n
