FULLERTON, Calif. \u2013 The Cal State Fullerton softball team “Beat the Beach” 4-2 in its series opener on Friday night at Anderson Family Field. The Titans improved to 33-12 overall and 20-2 in Big West play.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Colby McClinton<\/a> (2-for-3, 2B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB) doubled to center field in the first inning before scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field by Sarah Coccillos<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n McClinton’s bat reignited in the third inning with a two-run, no-doubter over the wall in left-center field. Sarah Perez<\/a>, who slapped a ball into shallow left field, scored on the play for a 3-0 lead over the Beach. The Beach found an additional hit, but leaping grabs by Jenica Silvas<\/a> and Kate Verhoef<\/a> in the outfield and a ground ball to Coccillos at third got the Titans out of the inning.\u00a0<\/p>\n Verhoef (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) pushed the Titans back to a three-run lead, 4-1, in the fourth inning with an RBI double to right-center field that scored pinch runner Briona Ferdman<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Kate Verhoef<\/a> drives in Briona Ferdman<\/a> on a double in the fourth inning! #TusksUp<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/fGZ4T698j3<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Titans Softball (@Fullerton_SB) April 25, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n A defensive error by Verhoef in right-center field in the top of the sixth allowed Long Beach State to plate its second run from first base and tighten Fullerton’s lead to 4-2.\u00a0<\/p>\n Trisha McCleskey<\/a> pitched her 12th complete game of the season and improved to 15-8 overall. Through seven innings, she allowed one earned run on four hits and a walk, while striking out seven batters.\u00a0<\/p>\n Before the game, the Titans welcomed former head coach Kelly Ford back to Anderson Family Field. She showcased her everlasting talent, throwing a strike in the ceremonial first pitch. Ford enjoyed the game up in the Cervantes Family Terrace with Titans Softball alumni, including former head coach Michelle Gromacki.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Titans return to action against Long Beach State on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. on ESPNU. Game two will be broadcast on ESPN+.
