Drinks sat next to open laptops, as remote workers turned the space into a casual work hub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m stuck at home all the time, why not just get out and change scenery?\u201d one attendee said. \u201cCoffee shops get boring after a while, so you might as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For many, it wasn\u2019t just about getting work done, it was about connection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve been networking with all the people around me,\u201d another attendee said. \u201cSo networking, new friendships and getting out of the house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muirhead said the idea took off after his first beach meetup drew a crowd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was just such a positive response from the first one,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to keep it going, like it was so unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But that success also brought challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The second beach meetup planned for La Jolla Shores was postponed after the city reached out to Scott, asking him to go through the proper permitting process.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;It just got a lot of traction on social media,&#8221; Muirhead said. &#8220;And then the city actually reached out via email and just said, &#8216;Hey, we&#8217;d love it if you would postpone this and, you know, do it the right way, get it permitted, because the last one was just a little bit too big.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For now, the beach events are on pause, but the concept isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Muirhead said he\u2019s working with the city on future permitted meetups and already has something bigger planned next month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of being claustrophobic in our home offices or coffee shops,\u201d one attendee said, \u201cwe\u2019re coming out and meeting other San Diego remote people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And in the meantime, the goal remains simple: make remote work feel a little less remote.<\/p>\n<p>    <script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A remote work meetup in Encinitas brought remote workers together Friday afternoon, after a planned beach event hit&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":285054,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[28],"tags":[74,76,75],"class_list":{"0":"post-285053","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-diego","8":"tag-san-diego","9":"tag-san-diego-headlines","10":"tag-san-diego-news"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/285053","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=285053"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/285053\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/285054"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=285053"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=285053"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=285053"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
