The San Jose Barracuda\u2019s stay in the Calder Cup playoffs didn\u2019t last long.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Barracuda, the Sharks\u2019 AHL affiliate,<\/a> allowed two goals in the first period and never fully recovered in a 5-1 loss<\/a> to the Henderson Silver Knights on Friday, as San Jose was swept in the best-of-three first-round series two games to none at Lee\u2019s Family Forum.<\/p>\n

The Barracuda lost 5-4 in overtime<\/a> in the first game of the series on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Barracuda allowed first-period goals to Raphael Lavoie and Braeden Bowman before Alexander Holtz scored at the 2:07 mark of the second period to give the Silver Knights a 3-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Winger Egor Afanasyev got one goal back for the Barracuda at the 18:55 mark of the second period off assists from Eric Pohlkamp, who was playing in his first professional game, and Jimmy Huntington.<\/p>\n

The Barracuda went 0-for-3 on the power play and were largely stymied by Silver Knights goalie Carl Lindbom, who finished with 26 saves.<\/p>\n

Barracuda goalie Laurent Brossoit stopped nine of 11 shots in the first period and finished with 27 saves.<\/p>\n

Brossoit made 34 saves in Game 1, where forwards Huntington, Kasper Halttunen, Colin White, and Igor Chernyshov all scored for San Jose before forward Trevor Connelly scored 38 seconds into overtime to give Henderson the win.<\/p>\n

Pohlkamp, the Sharks\u2019 prospect defenseman, entered the Barracuda lineup on Friday just 13 days after he helped the University of Denver win the NCAA Division I national championship. Denver\u2019s 2-1 win over Wisconsin<\/a> in the title game came at T-Mobile Arena, roughly a 15-minute drive from the Silver Knights\u2019 home rink.<\/p>\n

Besides his primary assist on Afanasyev\u2019s goal, Pohlkamp had a game-high six shots on net, after he led all of college hockey<\/a> this past season with 188 shots on goal. His 39 points led all NCAA defensemen as he became a top-three finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey\u2019s top player.<\/p>\n

The Sharks signed Pohlkamp to a two-year entry-level contract on April 16. Pohlkamp signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Barracuda earlier Friday.<\/p>\n

The Barracuda finished the regular season in sixth place in the Pacific Division with a 40-28-2-2 record. Filip Bystedt, the Sharks\u2019 first-round pick in 2022, led San Jose in regular-season scoring with 60 points in 65 games.
