{"id":285687,"date":"2026-04-25T15:57:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T15:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/285687\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T15:57:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T15:57:08","slug":"rose-center-theaters-tenant-could-stick-around-through-dec-31-in-new-decision-from-westminster-council-orange-county-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/285687\/","title":{"rendered":"Rose Center Theater\u2019s tenant could stick around through Dec. 31 in new decision from Westminster council \u2013 Orange County Register"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In another change of direction, the Westminster City Council has agreed to offer the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosecentertheater.com\/?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=19560881487&amp;gbraid=0AAAAADeZ7WUMX_9faZ31T6sYGVlKZNcot&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwqazPBhALEiwAOuXqdK57NoDVJdT2NBgGUQ7d1-Q-JAOloVDU-72RxeMh0etYOa8lMm1JuRoCrFsQAvD_BwE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rose Center Theater<\/a>\u2018s tenant another six months to stay and operate in the city-owned venue.<\/p>\n<p>The Friends of the Rose Center, a nonprofit of about 20 volunteers organized in 1999, has been delivering musical productions at the Rose Center Theater between 15th Street and All American Way for more than 20 years. The city theater also features an event space, an outdoor patio and a complete kitchen, which the nonprofit oversaw bookings for.<\/p>\n<p>The nonprofit\u2019s lease with the city was due to expire on June 30, with the option of a three-month extension. But the council on <a href=\"https:\/\/westminsterca.granicus.com\/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=2#docaccess-57996cdb130afacb976af4725f1613ef\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wednesday, April 22, decided to extend to the group the option of staying until Dec. 31.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>That extension would give the council time to solicit proposals from new venue operators and bring into view a new vision for the theater; some councilmembers have said they hoped to turn the theater into a cultural center that would bring in revenue for the city while still delivering theater productions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lfweblink.westminster-ca.gov\/WebLink\/DocView.aspx?id=2719308&amp;dbid=0&amp;repo=CityofWestminster&amp;cr=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Estimates by city staff<\/a> say Westminster currently pays around $50,000 annually to cover the theater\u2019s expenses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been very emotionally challenging for the Friends of the Rose Center, who provide an essential service to the community,\u201d Councilmember Carlos Manzo said. \u201cYou see the quality of the type of performances that they provide.
