California\u2019s schools are bracing for a dramatic exodus<\/a> \u2014 with the state expected to lose almost a million students over a decade-long period as families flee soaring costs.<\/p>\n

Federal data<\/a> shows enrollment in the state\u2019s public schools will plummet 15.7% by 2031, hollowing out classrooms in a system that currently serves about 5.9 million. <\/p>\n

While California\u2019s classrooms shrink, other states are adding students.<\/p>\n

Idaho is projected to see its enrollment jump 10.8% by 2031, while Florida is projected to grow 3.2%, with Utah, Alabama, and Tennessee also on the rise. <\/p>\n
