Trump said the man was armed with multiple weapons before being stopped by the Secret Service. <\/p>\n
Metropolitan Police Department Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll later said those weapons included a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives. <\/p>\n
One officer was shot but was protected by his bulletproof vest. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe was shot from very close distance with a very powerful gun, and the vest did the job,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement exchanged gunfire with the suspect. He was not hit by gunfire and was taken to a hospital to be evaluated, D.C. officials said. <\/p>\n
Trump described the suspect as being a \u201clone wolf.\u201d <\/p>\n
He shared two photos on Truth Social of the suspected shooter being restrained on the ground while shirtless. <\/p>\n

The gunman did not make it to the banquet hall. <\/p>\n
He is being charged with firearms and assault charges and will be arraigned on Monday, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said. <\/p>\n
