This Halloween<\/a>, you can see a scary movie<\/a> in your local AMC theater. Or you can watch one perhaps as it\u2019s better experienced: In a dark warehouse full of horrific decor, where it feels like zombies could break down the door any minute.<\/p>\n

The Shaker Theater<\/a> is a new underground pop-up cinema in a residential part of northern Oakland. For its inaugural run, it\u2019s been playing George Romero\u2019s 1968 \u201cNight of the Living Dead\u201d during October, with final runs up until Halloween evening. It\u2019s the uncensored, 96-minute original preserved on real celluloid. There will be popcorn and soda and, for more fun, before the movie the theater is playing clips from its \u201cdeep archives of rare and bizarre material.\u201d Think Halloween safety films, forgotten trailers and classic monster-movie moments.<\/p>\n

To get into the screening, visitors must first navigate a \u201cCorridor of Horror\u201d designed by local artist Rob Vertigo. Picture a classic haunted house, but turned into spooky-maze form. Did your group just lose a member? It\u2019s probably nothing to worry about, they\u2019re no doubt right behind you\u2026. Wait, that\u2019s not Chad! (Screams.)<\/p>\n
