The experience lands somewhere between a hotel stay and a well-designed apartment you step into for a few nights.

Developer Rachel Gerstein helmed The Ivory around the idea that L.A. has plenty of hotels, but few feel personal. Here, a “home, but better” philosophy drives every decision, blending residential warmth with a more refined, design-forward sensibility.

“Koreatown is one of the most dynamic, layered neighborhoods in Los Angeles,” Gerstein told Los Angeles of The Ivory’s neighborhood. “Its vibrancy is what first drew me here, but it also made clear what felt missing: a place to pause. I’ve always been inspired by spaces that offer both connection and retreat, and Koreatown felt like the ideal setting to introduce something more intimate and restorative without ever losing touch with the neighborhood’s energy and character.”

Gersein continued, “What continues to draw me in is the sense of discovery— it’s a neighborhood with incredible range, where you can move seamlessly from late-night meals to more specialized offerings, like Korean pastries or thoughtful tea programs, all within a few blocks. That depth and richness, the way so many experiences exist side by side, creates a feeling that’s entirely its own and hard to replicate anywhere else in Los Angeles.”

Inside, that approach feels immediate. Oak herringbone floors ground the rooms, while low, upholstered beds and layered neutrals soften the space.

Guest room at The IvoryCredit: Michael Clifford Photography

Light filters through sheer drapery, creating a calm that never feels overly minimal. Nothing competes for attention. Textures do the work quietly, from woven throws to boucle seating that invites you to stay a little longer.

The common areas open things up. The lobby displays curved seating in muted terracotta tones that wrap around low tables, while a coastal mural stretches across the wall, pulling in a hazy view of the shoreline.

Scroll to continue reading

The Ivory Pool Lounge VignetteCredit: Michael Clifford Photography

Then come the small gestures that make moments. Morning bread service. Evening cookies. Nothing overdone, just thoughtful touches that feel intuitive instead of staged.

“The daily rituals stand out most to me,” Gerstein said. “There’s something very special about the simplicity of a morning pastry or an evening reset—it reflects the kind of experience I’m always seeking when I travel. Those small, consistent moments create a sense of comfort and rhythm that makes a place feel like home, but elevated.”

Where Culture and Comfort Meet

The Ivory builds beyond the rooms. It treats food, art, and programming as part of the experience, not extras.

The menu leans into contrast, pairing Kaluga caviar with smaller, more relaxed plates like pâté, cheeses and bruschetta. A wine list focused on California producers keeps things grounded, while a tight cocktail program avoids unnecessary excess.

Art anchors the space. The hotel’s program, led by art director Matt Scheele, brings in work from Los Angeles–based artists. In the lobby, Rob Wynne’s Daydream installation catches and reflects light throughout the day, adding movement to an otherwise restrained room.

“Art felt essential from the beginning because I’ve always believed that great hospitality should connect people not just to a place, but to its creative community,” Gerstein noted. “The Ivory is ultimately about celebrating Los Angeles, and its artists are the living, breathing soul of the city, so it was important to create a space where they can be seen, supported, and experienced by locals and visitors alike. … More than anything, it’s about creating moments of discovery and connection. Whether it’s encountering a salon-style wall in the lounge or attending an artist talk or reading, the goal is for the art to feel seamlessly integrated into the experience, offering guests a deeper, more meaningful way to engage with the city.”

Programming will build from there. Panels, performances and rotating exhibitions aim to pull both guests and locals into the space.

Gallery Wall LandscapeCredit: Michael Clifford Photography

Day Dream InstallationCredit: Michael Clifford Photography

The Ivory doesn’t compete with Koreatown’s pace. It steps slightly to the side.

Guests move easily between both worlds. One moment, you’re out in the middle of it. The next, you’re back in a room that slows everything down.

The property reinforces that balance with a courtyard, pool, rooftop deck and 24-hour fitness center. Service follows the same logic. Guests can check in digitally or opt for a more traditional arrival, depending on how they want the stay to unfold.

Located at 457 S. Mariposa Avenue, The Ivory is now open, with rates starting around $375 a night.

The 48-room hospitality concept offers a welcome respite in one of L.A.’s busiest neighborhoods Tucked along South Mariposa…

[27
4731,43009,48,52,51,47,50,49
0":"post-289904","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-los-angeles","8":"tag-hotels","9":"tag-koreatown","10":"tag-la","11":"tag-la-headlines","12":"tag-la-news","13":"tag-los-angeles","14":"tag-los-angeles-headlines","15":"tag-los-angeles-news
["GET
