See the full document here. It looks to eliminate 46.1 full-time jobs that are now filled, in addition to cutting 94.5 vacant positions, to help balance the budget. “While some filled sworn public safety positions were eliminated in the Budget, no sworn Police or Fire staff will be separated from the City and will instead move to available vacant sworn positions,” the 570-page document says. The city said some other city workers could find other jobs within the government. In a statement, the city also said the deficit wasn’t the result of an economic downturn, but was structural because of increased service demands, inflation and reduced state funding for homelessness programs. Other cost-cutting measures include “reducing expenditures, revenue adjustments and funding shifts.” The city said that based on community feedback, the budget restores planned reductions to the Police Department Magnet Academy, partial restoration of Fire suppression vacancies, park maintenance services, and programs in Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment. The city also decided against raising parking meter rates and charges for residential parking permits, but those changes were not reflected in time before the proposed budget went to print. Among the city’s investments will be a new Economic Development Department, continued homelessness outreach and shelter expansion, the city said. The budget is expected to be discussed in May with final adoption planned for June 9.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel

      SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

The city of Sacramento on Wednesday released a proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year that aims to close a $66.2 million deficit, in part, by cutting dozens of jobs.

The city said the $1.7 billion budget includes $898.3 million for the general fund and supports 4,822 full-time equivalent positions.

Other cost-cutting measures include “reducing expenditures, revenue adjustments and funding shifts.”

The city said that based on community feedback, the budget restores planned reductions to the Police Department Magnet Academy, partial restoration of Fire suppression vacancies, park maintenance services, and programs in Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment.

The city also decided against raising parking meter rates and charges for residential parking permits, but those changes were not reflected in time before the proposed budget went to print.

Among the city’s investments will be a new Economic Development Department, continued homelessness outreach and shelter expansion, the city said.

The budget is expected to be discussed in May with final adoption planned for June 9.

See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel

The city of Sacramento on Wednesday released a proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year that aims to…

[32
2076,124561,1409,24906,124565,124562,76564,4194,7153,124564,124566,1725,124567,121,123,122,39984,124563,7164
post-292249","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sacramento","tag-budget","tag-budget-gap","tag-city","tag-deficit","tag-fire-suppression-vacancy","tag-full-document","tag-homelessness-program","tag-job","tag-job-cuts","tag-m-budget-gap","tag-park-maintenance-service","tag-parks","tag-police-department-magnet-academy","tag-sacramento","tag-sacramento-headlines","tag-sacramento-news","tag-state-funding","tag-vacant-position","tag-youth
["GET
